Sport Psychology Resources
Sport Psychology is an exciting and interesting discipline which is growing in popularity. I hope to provide some useful resources and links for athletes, coaches and students that are interested in learning more.
What is Sport Psychology?
Sport Psychology is not a new discipline, but it is only in the last 20 years or so that it has really started to be seen as an important part of sports performance. It seeks to understand the behavior of people involved in sport, and the mental factors behind their performance (or non-performance).
It is distinct from Exercise Psychology, which seeks to understand and improve participation in physical activity, particularly from a public health perspective.
As an academic discipline, sport and exercise psychology is the scientific study of people and their behavior in sport and exercise contexts and involves such topics as personality, motivation, emotions (such as anxiety or anger), confidence, leadership, and team dynamics.
It is applied not only to individual and team performance, but also talent identification and coach development. Some sport psychologists are also clinically trained, while others will also work at an organizational level.
If you are considering using a sport psychologist, you should always check that they are appropriately certified by a professional body.

- Excellent information on the subject matter of sports psychology. It's an excellent field and certainly provides athletes with effective strategies to mentally prepare themselves and develop toughness.
The problem with traditional sports psychology is that is attempts to get results by making changes purely at a cognitive level. What is often forgotten is that thoughts and feelings are physical in nature. To get the best results, mental game issues have to be treated physically! This is why you can't just tell someone who feels down to feel better, it doesn't work!
Great lens though, athletes know that the mental side of the game is what matters, they're just lacking an effective strategy that works to change their mental game with.
