Which fluid hydrates best: Water or a sports drink?

Unless you've been living in a cave, you've probably seen those television advertisements in which a leading sports drink maker claims its product "hydrates better than water." The fact that the message of these ads hasn't changed in many years suggests that a lot of athletes aren't buying it.

But it's actually true.

Why do sports drinks hydrate better than water? There are three reasons. First, fluids are absorbed through the gut and into the bloodstream faster when their osmolality closely matches that of body fluids such as blood.

Osmolality is the concentration of dissolved particles in a fluid. Sports drinks contain dissolved minerals (sodium, etc.) and carbohydrates, whereas water doesn't, so water doesn't reach the bloodstream as quickly.

If we don't change, we don't grow If we don't grow, we aren't really living.

The Facts on Low Carbohydrate Diets

Diets! They seem to come with an attached baggage of stress, dogged determination (or in some cases, lack thereof) and usually a grumbling stomach.

The above seems to be the norm, but what we don't realize is that the word diet simply means one's food eating habits. What Supplements do I Use when Weight Training

It is very important for someone who has decided to take up weight training to take care of what they eat. Not only is one required to increase their normal food intake, the quality of what one is eating is also very important. When I began weight training, I never took care of my diet and ended up wondering why I was always so tired and having serious muscle soreness. It turns out that I had nothing to change my nutrition and as such though I was training, poor nutrition was actually setting me back.

It became obvious to me that my normal diet was not going to give me the best rewards when I was weight training and decided to add sports supplements to my diet. The effects were awesome and immediate. It was easy for me to will my way to my gym and enjoy a great weight lifting experience with results to show for it. Some of the supplements that I added to my weight lifting program included.

Protein is just another term for a combination of amino acids. Amino acids are basically the building blocks of muscle and lack of amino acids will lead to your body not growing. It was easy to find protein in my food for my daily activities but when I started weight training, there was a need improve on the quality of the protein.

    Sports drinks may be necessary depending on your sweat rate, intensity of exercise, and weather. So why hydrate with water instead of sports drinks? Unless you are sweating for a long time or have a high rate of sweating, water will replace the fluids lost through sweating better than sports drinks. Besides, water is cheaper and has zero calories. So why spend the money and calories on something your body does not need?
