Got sports? Well, we do!!!!
I'm Johann, Johann The Dog and I LOVE sports! Agility, herding, flyball, disc dog, dock dog, rally-o and more!
That's me on the left, shooting through the tunnel in dog agility. I take my sports very seriously, seriously fun!
We've put together this lens to introduce you to the world of dog sports. And the best part is there are lots of links for you to find more information and get you and your dog off the couch, having fun and competing! Yep, that's right, there is a sport for EVERY dog! And you can do it too.
We hope you enjoy our lens. Be sure and check back often, 'cause we'll be adding more and more sports, all the time.
Dog Agility!
Dog agility is my favorite sport and one of the most popular sports for pure and all american breeds.Dog agility is a sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Dogs must run off-leash with no food or toys as incentives.
In its simplest form, an agility course consists of a set of standard obstacles, laid out by an agility judge in a design of his own choosing on a roughly 100 by 100 foot (30 by 30 m) area, with numbers indicating the order in which the dog must complete the obstacles.

Flyball!
Flyball is fast and furious! In flyball two teams of four dogs each race side-byside over a 51 foot long course.
Each dog runs in a relay down the four jumps, triggers a flyball box that releases the ball, they retrieve the ball and return over the jumps.
Then the next dog is release to run the course. Subsequent dogs can't cross the start/finish line until the previous dog has returned over all four jumps and reached the start/finish line.
The first team with all 4 dogs finishing the course without error wins the heat.

Disc Dog!
Some call it Disc Dog, some call it Frisbee dog, but whatever you call it - it's fun!In disc dog competitions, dogs and their human disc throwers compete in events such as distance catching and choreographed freestyle catching.
The sport celebrates the bond between handler and dog, by allowing them to work together. The term "disc" is preferred because "Frisbee" is a trademark (held by Wham-O) for a brand of flying disc.

Woof! Great lens, we love dog sports at our house, especially agility, and any kind of ball, or frisbee. You are a great lensmaking dog. I wish I could teach Emily (my Border Collie) to create lenses. She's pretty smart, but she likes hugs, not typing. BTW I lensrolled this on Dog Activities.
Herding!
Got sheep?Herding dogs have long been important in livestock industries throughout the world.
Today there is also an increased interest in herding on the part of individuals who are not involved in the livestock industry, but who are interested in working with their dogs and helping preserve the talents and abilities of the herding breeds. Competitive herding trials have been increasing in number and variety.
Few activities offer the variety of situations and the opportunity for real teamwork between handler and dog that are a part of herding.
Herding dogs must cooperate with the handler, yet use their own initiative and judgment. They must be able to work with gentleness, yet show strength in facing up to a stubborn animal.

Introduced in 2000, Rally Obedience is a form of dog obedience with a twist - a total focus on fun and excitement for the dog, handler and spectator.Dog and handler teams follow a set course, performing the exercise indicated by 10-20 consecutive signs. Signs are numbered to indicate the course the handler and dog take during the performance.
There is a lot of variety with each rally course. And rally is different than Obedience in that handlers may talk to their dogs, praise them, and give them needed verbal commands.
Handlers can even use hand signals, point and in Novice and Advanced, clap and snap their fingers at anytime and as often as the handler needs. And it's not only allowed, but encouraged - making it a really fun sport!
