Spotted Dove

Spotted dove is dove family with nice sound. The basic color of the bird is dark brown and we can see black spot at wing and neck. The color of iris eye is black and the retina is yellow. The color of feet is blood red.

The size is smaller than homing pigeon. The length is only 28-32 cm. the life span of this bird could reach 20 years.

The habitat of this bird is savanna and farm land. Their diet is grass, seed, insect and fruits.

I have cared this bird at least three times. This bird recognizes the owner. If the bird runs out from cage, they will come back soon or later. They have character like their brother, pigeon.

The cock has beautiful sound than the female but sometimes the female also have good sound. This bird is a solitaire bird. They will find food and play alone. The sound of this bird like "coo-coo, kroo, krook!" or "coo-coo-croo"

In my country, this bird has been exhibiting since ten years ago. The contestant of the exhibition could come from various provinces.

The famous spotted dove comes from Kelantan, Malaysia. Kelantan's spotted dove has high sound and beautiful. Of course, The Kelantan is very expensive. Even, the former of senator's chief in my country follow the exhibition.

You can invite this bird on your backyard too. Provide some bird food and nest. Some certain tree is their favorite house. You can hear the sound everyday at your backyard.
