What is FireFox?
Mozilla Firefox is a web browser developed by the Mozilla Corporation and a growing community of external contributors. Mozilla Firefox is a cross-platform browser, providing support for various versions of Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. However, the source code has been unofficially ported to other operating systems, including FreeBSD, OS/2, Solaris, SkyOS, BeOS and more recently, Windows XP x64 Edition.
What are the advantages of the FireFox browser?
1. Tabbed Browsing
Although offered by many modern web browsers (including the new IE7), FireFox was one of the first to offer browsing within tabs. This helps keep your operating system's interface clean and uncluttered and can help you to organize your surfing.
2. Add-Ons, Themes and Extensions
FireFox has made itself available to the wide-ranging community of modifiers out there and continues to maintain a database of extensions and themes available for download for free. Themes range from the utilitarian to the wild, and addons are anywhere from practical (Download Statusbar for instance) to extremely powerful (Greasemonkey allows you to read and modify the code of web pages on the fly, adding features to major services like Gmail).
3. Security
Because of a number of flaws in the way Internet Explorer handles websites that request to install files on your computer FireFox gained popularity as a more secure browser. Although technically the code is not any more secure than Internet Explorer, the user experience provides a more intelligible warning system, which epowers the user to make better decisions about what to allow, and where.
