Spyware in short are pop-up ads and key-loggers (they record everything you type and relate it to an advertisment). These by far are the most rampant computer problem. You can get spyware from ANYTHING. Even legitmate programs use spyware in someway to "better their product". As a rule I always uncheck the box to send back stats and things of that nature. The most popular spyware are the false spyware detection programs. You get these pop-ups that say "You have a virus download my program to fix them". Well it turns out the program is the very culprit. Beware of warnings contained within a webpage window.
