It is the beginning, the starting-point ... that is Square One ** been there and definitely done that!
So ... here I am again, back at Square One. In this instance, I am stuck on my internet browser. You see Firefox upgraded to 7.0.1 and now I can't access my Squidoo lenses with FF. Pretty frustrating. All the due diligence has been taken; however, I have a unique computer set-up and seem to be the only one in this situation. What do you do first? Submit a bug report. Uninstall; download; reinstall. Upgrade plug-ins and add-ons. Check that error console. Disable; enable. It can sometimes be a mystery to the best minds! Ah, Square One folks!!
How about you? It's cool to see the other instances of "Square One" in the business world ... come join me and check it out! Ah, let's start at "Square One," shall we?

I also remember in the 1980s working with the quality concept of "zero defects" and "get it right the first time." Nowadays, we are so rushed in our daily lives and have so much additional responsibilities, it's sometimes difficult to always employ the "zero defects" principle. Too bad we can't sometimes run the spelling checker on ourselves!

Back to Square One: Back to the beginning, to start again.
Origin: The most widely reported suggestions for the origin of this phrase are BBC sports commentaries, board games like snakes and ladders and playground games like hopscotch. Read more about it.
- BBC Commentaries: In order that listeners could follow the progress of the game, in radio commentaries, the pitch was divided into eight notional squares. Commentators described the play by saying which square the ball was in. The Radio Times, which was and is the BBC's listings guide, refers to the practise in an issue from January 1927.
- Board Games: Many people report that the phrase refers to snakes and ladders or similar board games. The earliest citation of the phrase in print is currently 1952, from the Economic Journal: "He has the problem of maintaining the interest of the reader who is always being sent back to square one in a sort of intellectual game of snakes and ladders."
- Hopscotch: This playground game is played on a grid of numbered squares. The precise rules of the game vary from place to place but usually involves players hopping from square to square, missing out the square containing their thrown stone. They go from one to (usually) eight or ten and then back to square one.

Square One TV
Square One, also known as Square One Television, was a children's television show produced by the Children's Television Workshop to teach mathematics and abstract mathematical concepts to young viewers.Originated and broadcast by PBS in the United States from 1987 to 1992, the show was intended to counter the so-called "math crisis" among American schoolchildren. It has since been rated TV-Y7.
The show was revived for the 1995-1996 PBS season as Square One TV Math Talk. Square One was also shown on the U.S. cable television channel Noggin in syndication beginning in 1999, but was removed from its lineup along with other Children's Television Workshop shows on May 26, 2003.

Square One Vodka
Square One Organic Vodka, the world's first certified organic rye vodka is now available online and in local stores near you. I found it online for about $32.00 for a 750ml bottle."Square One vodka is handcrafted from 100%-certified organically grown rye and produced with an unprecedented organic fermentation process. The resulting spirit is richer and smoother than any vodka on the market.
How do we know? Just ask the consumers and industry experts who've chosen Square One as their favorite vodka over many high-end (and ubiquitous) competitive brands."
Now, how appropriate that you've had a rough day and it's 5'oclock. You've been feeling like you're "back to square one. Why not pour yourself a Square One Vodka drink? I know I will!

- I usually say "Back to the drawing board" but I've heard of Square One before. A great slant on things Julie, you have a way of looking sideways at some everyday thing and showing it in a new light. Blessed by an angel today.

- Neat Idea! I've been on Square One many times. Actually, I'm using the countdown in the opposite direction... started at Square 100 and I'm working my way over to Square One. Less traffic in that direction! (^_^) I've always wondered about "Square One"... I've worked with companies that talked about "Square One" (usually after some sort of management disaster....*sigh*)... Now I need to work on my Squidoos... not yet at the Square One stage!
