Choosing The Best Squash Racket

I've played the game of squash on and off for about 18 years now. I've probably played with dozens of different rackets. Different materials, different composites, different grips, different strings, and different shaped rackets. So, I do have a few opinions when it comes to rackets.

For the majority of players any of the top brands like Dunlop, Black Knight, Wilson, Technifibre, Head, Prince, Manta, or Karakal all manufacturer an appropriate racket. I wouldn't get too hung up on brand name. Unless, your one of the top 200 players on the PSA tour, there's really no need to spend more than a hundred dollars for a racket.

Usually, I worry more about getting a racquet with a weight and stiffness that I feel comfortable with. After enduring several elbow and shoulder injuries over the years, I do favour a lighter racquet. Usually in the 130 to 140 gram weight. A stiffer racquet will help keep vibration to a minimum as well. That's another injury prevention.

It's a good idea to have at least a couple of racquets of whatever your favourite brand and model is these days. There's nothing worse, than being in the club championship match tied 6-6 in the fifth game, blow a string, and have pull a racquet out of your bag that's got a different feel than the one you've been playing with.

Although, I do seem to carry more than two racquets in my bag at any given time. When some less prepared player breaks one, and needs to borrow a racquet, I like to have an old junker I don't care about for lending purposes. I've got a really old Slazenger that serves this role well.

The oldest of those rackets (a Slazenger) has a hairline stress crack, and will probably go any time. It's like 10 years old, so it doesn't really owe me anything.

The remaining two need restringing, and I'm not sure they're worth being restrung. One is an Unsquashable, that I won at a tournament, and have never been all that attached to. The last one is a Black Knight Viper, that is pretty old as well, and will probably break as soon as I get it restrung. So, I haven't.

I have been playing with a pair of Wilson N145's this season, but think I will switch to something else next year. I liked a Dunlop I had last year, but they seem a bit too brittle. I went through two of them in less than a month. It may be time to do a little racquet shopping soon.

The Best Squash Rackets For Sale

Online shopping lets you find the best rackets at discount prices

If your fortunate enough, to have a specialty racket store in your city, your very lucky. I do, but sometimes their prices aren't the best. Specialty stores tend to be like that, irregardless of what they're selling. Online stores, have to compete with a lot of other stores, so it's possible, to get some really good rackets for a great price.

Really Disturbing Squash Racket Trick

Not really a squash racket review . . . but still involving a racket

Ok, I know this pages is about squash racket reviews, but I couldn't really find a decent video reviewing squash rackets. Maybe, I'll do one later. But, I couldn't resist including this one. It's not for the squeamish, and not the best use I can think of for a squash racket, but still worth watching.

Questions about squash rackets, or squash in general, are more then welcome. If I can't answer your question, I'll research it, or find someone who can. I've met quite a few squash players over the years.
