The Mysterious Life of a Squid Angel

Have you been Blessed by a Squid Angel? Did you even know that there is a group of lensmasters on Squidoo who are Squid Angels?

You may never even have heard of the Squid Angels. Or perhaps you know that they exist but know little about them. Well I am here to answer the questions that you have about the Squid Angels. Who they are. What they do. What makes an Angel stop by your lens? What is a Squid Angel really looking for?

I confess that one of my proudest moments on Squidoo was finding my Squid Angel badge on my dashboard. It is something that I had wanted for a long time. From right back in the days when I started here. Now it is difficult to think of what I used to do with my time before Squidoo....... and now I am enjoying my Angel Wings while I get the chance to fly.

So let me enlighten you about the life of a Squid Angel!

Who are the Squid Angels?

There is always a group of around 10 Squid Angels who are appointed by HQ. They are recognised by Squidoo HQ as those lens masters who are able to use the 'power' of the Angels wisely. I am sure that you will agree that the Angels past and present are more than worthy of their Angel wings!

Are all the Squid Angels past and present listed here? Well as some of the Angels prefer to work a little more in the shadows but no less tirelessly then this lens doesn't guarantee a complete list! Some Angels are a little more shy than others, but all work very hard to be a worthy of the Squid Angel status.

What effect does a Squid Angel Blessing have on your Squidoo lens rank? How much will it help you get to the dazzling heights of the top 100 Squidoo lenses?

Squidoo lens rank position has many factors. No one except Squidoo HQ knows the complete truth. But having an Angel Blessing is certain to give your lens a boost in the rankings.

Having more than one Squid Angel Blessing will have an even more powerful effect on your lens. Squidoo recognises that each Angel has their own particular ideas about which lenses are worthy of a Blessing. But if a lens has more than one Angel finds their way to a lens then this one must have something about it which makes it even more special.

So 2 Angel Blessings have more than double the effect of 1 and so on. The Squid Angel Blessing becomes more and more significant the more a lens has.

A Squid Angel does have the power to 'ding' a lens. That is they can give it a thumbs down rating which will affect the lens rank of a lens downwards.

But no self respecting lensmaster need be concerned about this. An Angel is only looking for spam and will only use this 'power' when a lens is truly spam. We are not looking to penalise under par lenses, or pass judgment on those obviously trying to contribute to Squidoo. I think we all know pure spam when we see it and if an Angel does then we can use our thumbs down to help keep Squidoo standards high.

Will you know if a Squid Angel has visited your lens and you have been given a blessing?

The answer is. Sometimes. Personally I sometimes leave a message in the guestbook of a lens, and sometimes just bless the lens silently.

Each Squid Angel will have their own style.

I know from personal experience that I am always happy to hear from someone that one of my lenses is considered good enough to be blessed. It is a great confidence booster and that is one of the great elements of the social 'structure' of Squidoo. It is nice to know that someone is looking out for you.

How do Squid Angels Find Lenses to Bless?

Well some of it just has to do with how anyone finds a great lens that they want to read on Squidoo. And of course each Angel is different.

So how do I look for lenses? The most obvious place is the top 100, but I like to widen my search as much as I can do. Sometimes I will simply use the 'Find a lens on' search facility, browse around Groups, go to SquidU. Or just browse around the Squidoo community until I find something that catches my eye.

It is also encouraged to ask for a Squid Angel Blessing on the SquidU forum.

Squidoo is a very sociable place. The more you participate the more you are likely to be noticed - hopefully for good reasons!

What Do I Look For When Blessing a Lens?

Every Squid Angel has their own individual style and what is one Angel's bless worthy lens is not to every Angels taste.

Just as each lensmaster style is different, so are the criteria that they use to bless a lens.

The Squid Angels are a mixed group for a reason. They each have the freedom to find remarkable lenses which they feel deserve recognition.

Use some common sense though.

1. I know it has been said many times before but make your lens remarkable. Write about what you are passionate about and it will show.

2. Visually stunning lenses are much more likely to catch the attention of the reader. An Angel knows that you have taken care with a lens if it is well illustrated.

3. Use modules creatively. There are plenty of them out there so give them a try!

4. Join in. Blessworthy lenses are out there but we have to know were to find them. So the more visible you are in Squidoo the more likely you are to be seen! Squidoo is a social community. So don't be shy. Join in! Comment on others lenses and participate in Squidoo. Then I will know more easily how to find you.

5. Be more than just the sales module. Yes, I know that a big reason behind many lenses is to sell something, and dare I say it, make money! And anyone who has looked at my lenses knows that I don't think there is anything wrong with that! Each lensmaster has a different style, different aims and a different Squidoo presence. There are many brilliant lenses out there which are selling something but to be blessworthy they go beyond the average to a different level.

Squidoo is about quality and the Angels are here to help and encourage. So go ahead and create the very best that you can and you may find yourself visited by an Angel.
