What do you get when you cross fun with learning with newbies?

You get more cool Squidoo lenses!  And happy lensmasters, and more prosperous businesses and charities.  And all of that is part of my goal as Squidoo's new Community Organizer.

What exactly is a community organizer?

A community organizer can be a lot of things, depending on the community. The best way to describe what I do is to tell you what you'll see me doing most often:
  • Creating a Squidoo presence.
Did you find Squidoo through MySpace? A blog comment? An article? Yup, we're out there. Part of my job is to reach out into the big wide web and be places other people are.
  • Growing the community from the inside-out.
Bug reports and project launches and SquidU, oh my! Our users have needs, and I'm part of the team that collaborates to make sure they're addressed.
  • Growing the community from the outside-in.
This is what I'm REALLY in to. Finding new ways to use Squidoo, bringing in great new charities and partners, and sharing the versatility of Squidoo with huge groups of potential new users.

Hey you! Yes, you, Web 2.0 org. What can I do for you?

Do you have a great new startup? A shopping gizmo? A user-driven gadget? A site that needs the love of our Squidoo lensmasters?

Let's start a conversation: kimberly at squidoo.com

Q&A about Squidoo issues

New lensmaster? Want to do something tricky? Need some advice? Here's where to go for all the info you need to know.
  • Where can I get lenses critiqued?
If you want to know how to build a better lens, several of our dedicated lensmasters can help you out! Visit the Critique Me! forum at SquidU.
  • I need help learning how to do ____.
You're in luck! There are many places to learn how to do ____! If you're looking for lenses that talk about how to use Squidoo, try the Addicted to Squidoo! Group. If you need some basic info on using Squidoo, visit SquidU, our learning center. If you want one-on-one help from a human, ask at our SquidU Forums.
  • How do I know WHERE to ask for help?
Where to go with your questions depends on what kind of question it is. If it is technical in nature and only a Squid Staff member can fix it, you will need to file a bug report. Bug reports are for error messages, buttons that aren't working properly, and things that go screwy on your lens. If you want to know more about promoting your lens, using the modules, or trying new things, visit the Help, Please! forum at SquidU.

Addicted? Want more ideas for creating lenses?

Our new Fresh Squid lenses will fill your head with fun ideas for creating more lenses. Go ahead, take a new spin on things, and look for something that isn't so obvious.

My number one tip for new lensmasters

I get a lot of questions from newbies asking, "I don't know what to do! Where do I start?" Instead of ME telling you what to do or how to do it, my best suggestion is to test things out and see what they do. Click all the buttons, fill out the forms, edit and publish and save and find out what happens with all the features. Nothing will blow up (I promise!) If you don't like what you did you can always change it later.

Getting the step-by-step is easy, but you'll learn 10 times more by doing it yourself. You might even discover something we didn't know! If you run into bugs along the way, there are lots of places you can ask for help. So go ahead, be brave, and play!

What questions do you have?
