What Do These Squidoo Earnings Reports Mean?
A Brief Primer in Squidoo Earnings
This money does not show up on your Dashboard $$ Column.
Instead, you just have an amount added to your Paypal payment from Squidoo at the end of the month. Historically, the money paid from Adsense revenues has been paid in a 'tiered' structure, with every lens in the top tier receiving the same amount, every lens in the second tier making the same amount, and so forth.
We have attempted to break the monthly tiers down by our estimation of what your average LensRank for the month needs to be in order to qualify for each tier. We draw our data from over 1,000 lenses and are starting to be able to make some pretty good analysis of where the payouts break down at.
If you've got any questions about this lens, stop by the Captain Squid Squidoo Chat Room and let us know!
Squidoo Payouts over Time
January 2009 Squidoo Lens Earnings
Revenue Share Tier Income from Squidoo Lenses
Tier 1 $11.40
Tier 2 $1.78
Tier 3 $0.08
December 2008 Squidoo Lens Payouts
Tier 1 $12.00
Tier 2 $1.94
Tier 3 $0.08
November 2008 Squidoo Payout Tiers
Tier 1 $11.75
Tier 2 $1.96
Tier 3 $0.08
Looks like another 8-10% increase in the top 2 tiers over the previous month.
October 2008 Squidoo Payout Tier Levels
Squidoo Payout and a Bonus
There appears to be 3 distinct Squidoo payout levels. The Payout levels have been changed slightly to reflect the average lensrank for a lens for an entire month.
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier 1: approximately the top 2,000 lenses with the highest average lensrank.
Tier 2: approximately the next 8,000 highest lenses by avg. lensrank.
Tier 3: Approximately the next 60,000? highest lenses by avg lensrank (my tier 3 data is pretty poor, anyone else have any better indicators?)
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $10.75
Tier 2 : $1.81
Tier 3 : $0.08
Tier 4 : $0.00
This was a HUGE month for payouts as a one-time bonus was given to longime lensmasters for some rounding errors in the past. Those rounding errors added up to several hundred dollars in some cases! This month was the first month I heard of a lensmaster earning at least $1,000+ from Squidoo revenue sharing alone.
September 2008 Squidoo Payout Tier Levels
Lens Payout Breaks $10 a lens!
There appears to be 4 distinct Squidoo payout levels. The Payout levels have been changed slightly to reflect the average lensrank for a lens for an entire month.
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier 1: approximately the top 2,000 lenses with the highest average lensrank.
Tier 2: approximately the next 8,000 highest lenses by avg. lensrank.
Tier 3: Approximately the next 60,000? highest lenses by avg lensrank (my tier 3 data is pretty poor this month, anyone else have any better indicators?)
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $11.04
Tier 2 : $1.72
Tier 3 : $0.08
Tier 4 : $0.00
A slight change in the way the tiers are calculated was made this month, with an emphasis placed on the average lensrank for a lens over the course of the entire month. It resulted in the largest payouts ever, by a wide margin with top lenses making over $11 !
August 2008 Squidoo Payout Tier Levels
Squidoo Earnings Report
There appears to be 4 distinct Squidoo payout levels.
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier1 : Below approximately 2,000 ??
Tier2: LR Between 2,000 and 10,000 (Approx.) ??
Tier3: LR Between 10,000 and 100,000 (Approx.)??
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $7.78
Tier 2 : $1.32
Tier 3 : $0.07
Tier 4 : $0.00
Another fine payout for squidoo, down a few cents from the previous month, but nothing major. It appears a bunch of new lensmasters joined the $100/mo earnings club with this latest payout, congrats!
July 2008 Squidoo Earnings Report
There appears to be 4 distinct Squidoo payout levels.
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier1 : Below approximately 2,000 ??
Tier2: LR Between 2,000 and 10,000 (Approx.) ??
Tier3: LR Between 10,000 and 100,000 (Approx.)??
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $8.09
Tier 2 : $1.38
Tier 3 : $0.07
Tier 4 : $0.00
Tier One Levels rose significantly this month with the addition of the 'Glam' Ad revenue to the earnings pot. The sizes of the tiers appears to remain at approximately the same levels, if there is any tier expansion going on, HQ isn't talking :) .
Getting lenses into and keeping them in the top 10,000 is getting increasingly challenging and the quality of lenses on squidoo has increased significantly in the last 3 months.
June 2008 Squidoo Earnings Report
There appears to be 4 distinct Squidoo payout levels.
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier1 : Below approximately 2,000 ??
Tier2: LR Between 2,000 and 10,000 (Approx.) ??
Tier3: LR Between 10,000 and 100,000 (Approx.)??
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $7.38
Tier 2 : $1.25
Tier 3 : $0.07
Tier 4 : $0.00
A very interesting payout month, with a significant drop in Tier 1 earnings. However, the Roving Band's data shows that there is a possibility that the top tier expanded (to possibly 2200 or 2300 lenses)which would naturally result in a drop. ( SquidU thread about this payday)
Glam ads were delayed due to payout timing with HQ. The first Glam ads will pay out in next months payday.
This is the first month where 100 lensmasters made over $100 and 1,000 lensmasters made between $5 and $99. You go guys! (from the Giant Squid Training Blog)
May 2008 Squidoo Earnings Report
There appears to be 5 distinct Squidoo payout levels.
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier1 : Below approximately 2,000
Tier2: LR Between 2,000 and 10,000 (Approx.)
Tier3: LR Between 10,000 and 50,000 (Approx.)
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $8.32
Tier 2 : $1.42
Tier 3 : $0.07
Tier 4 : $0.01
Tier 5 : $0.00
The top two tiers dropped for the first time in several months, but don't be worried!
The Glam ads that appear in the sidebars of lenses first started being used in early April. This means that the next month's payouts will reflect an additional revenue stream for lensmasters!
Overall, a solid showing and another great increase!
Hold On to your hats, I think next month may be a doozy. Will we see over $10 a lens for the top tier?
April 2008 Squidoo Earnings Report
There appears to be 5 distinct Squidoo payout levels.
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier1 : Below approximately 2,000
Tier2: LR Between 2,000 and 10,000 (Approx.)
Tier3: LR Between 10,000 and 50,000 (Approx.)
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $8.94
Tier 2 : $1.53
Tier 3 : $0.08
Tier 4 : $0.01
Tier 5 : $0.00
It appears that a lens with a low enough LR can earn $0. this appears to happen if the average LR of the lens over the month is higher than 100,000. The top two tiers climbed again this month by a few pennies apiece.
Overall, a solid showing and another great increase!
Good luck everyone and keep on Squidooing!
March 2008 Squidoo Earnings Report
There now appears to be 5 distinct Squidoo payout levels.
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier1 : Below approximately 2,000
Tier2: LR Between 2,000 and 10,000 (Approx.)
Tier3: LR Between 10,000 and 50,000 (Approx.)
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $8.77
Tier 2 : $1.49
Tier 3 : $0.08
Tier 4 : $0.01
Tier 5 : $0.00
It appears that a lens with a low enough LR can earn $0. this appears to happen if the average LR of the lens over the month is under 100,000. The top two tiers climbed again this month.
When will we see $10 tier 1 payouts? :)
Good luck everyone and keep on Squidooing!
February 2008 Squidoo Earnings Report
Gigantic Squidoo Payouts
This marks the first month with a definitive 4th payout tier!
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier1 : between LR 1,996 and 2197
Tier2: between LR 9993-10006
Tier3: between LR 48,989-52,579
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $6.91
Tier 2 : $1.18
Tier 3 : $0.08
Tier 4 : $0.01
And the Payouts Keep Climbing!
HQ dropped word that it compiled a list of the best selling books in 2007. you can check it out at http://www.squidoo.com/squidoo-bestselling-books-2007
Good luck everyone and keep on Squidooing!
January 2008 Squidoo Earnings Report
Up, Up, and Away....
Three tiers again this month, with the top tier being smaller and the middle tier expanding a bit over last month.
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier1 : between LR 2,056 and 2151
Tier2: between LR 9906 10339
Tier3: unknown (not enough data)
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $6.23
Tier 2 : $1.06
Tier 3 : $0.05
A great month overall, with the top tier shrinking in size but increasing in payout. These payouts are for earnings in November 2007.
Word on the street is that the payout for next month will be a record! Stay tuned!!
Good luck everyone and keep on Squidooing!
Dec 2007 Squidoo Earnings Report
Another Rise in Adsense Payouts!
The fourth tier appears to be eliminated this month, dropping back down to three
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier1 : around LR 3,000
Tier2: around LR 7,000 (very rough estimate)
Tier3: unknown (not enough data)
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $6.05
Tier 2 : $1.03
Tier 3 : $0.06
A great month overall, with payouts rising 30% for lenses in the top two tiers.
Good luck everyone and keep on Squidooing!
November 2007 Squidoo Earnings Report
Squidoo Adsense Payouts for November 2007
A fourth tier was also introduced this month at $0.01 . This appears to have allowed for the third tier to double in value, up to $0.06 per lens.
The cut off appears to have roughly been the following:
Tier1 : around LR 3,000
Tier2: around LR 9,000
Tier3: unknown (not enough data)
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $4.67
Tier 2 : $0.79
Tier 3 : $0.06
Tier 4 : $0.01
A great month overall, things should only pick up heading into the holidays!
Good luck everyone and keep on Squidooing!
October 2007 Earnings Report
Squidoo Slap still being felt....
The three-tier system was again used again with the following payout levels. This is the payout for traffic that occurred during the very end of the Google 'Slap' and spam issues in early August.
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $3.32
Tier 2 : $0.56
Tier 3 : $0.03
While it dropped about 20% from August, it is expected that this is the end of the 'Google Slap' and things should only go up from here!
Good luck everyone and keep on Squidooing!
Sept 2007 Earnings Report
Squidoo Payout Levels for September 2007
The three-tier system was again used again with the following payout levels. This is the payout for traffic that occurred during the Google 'Slap' and spam issues in July.
Payout Levels:
Tier 1 : $4.12
Tier 2 : $0.73
Tier 3 : $0.04
While it dropped about 30% from August, it is still higher than the payout levels from July!!
Good luck everyone and keep on Squidooing!
August Earnings Hit a New Record for Squidoo
Squidoo Earnings at an all-time high
There were two major changes in August Squidoo Payouts.- WIP (Work-In-Progress) Lenses received no earnings.
- The Payments went up!
Hoorayy! These are both positive changes and I think will impact Squidoo for the better.
The Payout Tiers were as follows:
- $5.99
- $1.03
- $0.06
Not too shabby! Lensmasters with 100 lenses or so could really start making some money with this!
Record Squidoo Earnings payments in July 2007
New Tiered Payment System for squidoo earnings
July was a major turning point for the Squidoo economy. Casey, Megan, Gil, Seth and the gang decided to begin paying out Adsense income every month on a tiered system with the best lenses getting the most money (Makes sense right?). Using PayRank (a super-secret formula similar to Lens Rank, or the recipe for a soft drink) each lens was paid one of three dollar amounts for Adsense:- $3.80 went to the top lenses
- $0.65 went to the middle lenses (which are still usually very good)
- $0.05 went to all other lenses
This revolutionized the way that lens building was done. Suddenly you could have decent money making lenses without generating affiliate sales!
How much of your Squidoo earnings comes from Adsense
What percentage of your earnings is from Adsense?
Measuring third party affiliate sales, increased traffic, and other benefits of squidoo can be hard to do. However, it should be pretty easy to estimate what percentage of your earnings are from Adsense.

- Fantastic lens, 5*. I didn't know Squidoo payments fell in discrete tiers. This explains why my best lens jumped from a few pennies to over $10 last summer.
I always thought the real goal was to get good traffic from Google - which some of my lenses do - but this tier system gives an added incentive to struggle towards improving the lensrank of our lenses, as this can make you $10 per lens per month.

Thanks for a great piece of work, i'll see if I can start earning for my pension fund.. 5*

- the tier info for November cannot possibly be correct...my earnings were less than 40% of what they should have been according to those levels.
I have waited all month to cool down to look to see what it should have been and this merely confirms that I am being ripped off.
Somewhere there is a HUGE glitch in this system.
