Squidoo For Kids, By Kids, About Kids.

Grownups have Squidoo, important people have SquidWho, eBayers have SquidBids, cineasts have SquidFlix, books have SquidLit, couch potatos have SquidVids...

Isn't it about time that kids get SquidKids? I think it is, so here is my pitch lens for the Squidteam and lensmaster community.

To clarify: I'm not asking for a childproof version of Squidoo. But if Halloweeners have their own SquidBoo would it be too hard to imagine a fun kiddoo template for our lensmasters in training?

SquidKids: Start 'em early!

"Show & Tell" to the whole world

Squidoo is all about sharing your passion for fun and royalties. Can you be too young for that? I don't think so. Kids of all ages love to "show and tell", and Squidoo is the perfect platform for that. It is so easy to put together a themed lens, a child can do it! Why not add little "show and sell" to their repertoire?

"SquidKids:
It's like Show & Tell to the whole world!"

Kids on Computers

Around the globe kids are part of the wired world. And as many here could probably confirm, kids of Squidoo lensmasters are eager to try their own little tentacles at lensbuilding. SquidKids are also smarter and more likely to succeed than their non-squidoodling peers! (This statement has not been evaluated by the FDA.)

Lenses BY SquidKids

Squidooligans

Even though you currently have to be at least 18 when you sign up for your own Squidoo account, there are already quite a few kids of lensmasters building their own lenses on Squidoo. (or helping their SquidMoms and SquidDads to build them!)

New SquidKids Lenses Additions

SquidKids can earn some "Pocket Royalty"!

SKids are expensive. Kids love rewards. Squidoo and kids are an ideal combination. Whether you want to instill charitable values, or need some help building the college fund, earning some "pocket royalty" sure helps along the way.

Perhaps the SquidPowers could even create the option to designate a tuition fund as recipient of the royalty payments. Similar to the concept of upromise.com. Maybe even team up with them. This would also have the benefit that lensmastering friends and family members could contribute their royalties to a SquidKid's tuition fund.

Upromise.com
For those not familiar with Upromise: Upromise is a free service, and by adding your credit, debit or grocery card means that you can begin saving money for college every time you shop at participating retailers.

Saving for College

Squidoo Is Educational

There are many lensmasters who write "Education" on their Squidoo flag. These are just some that seem to be particularly relentless in their quest to bring quality educational lenses to Squidoo.

Wouldn't it be fun if their educational lenses had a colorful, playful lens layout that appeals to our squidlings and invites them to explore?

Squidoo Is Safe For Kids...

Well, pretty safe. In having their own Squidoo portal, we could have some extra safety features build in. For example, we could make sure that Squidoo pages accessible through SquidKids generally don't include R or X rated stuff. Maybe even have an additional rating for lenses specifically for kids, perhaps even by age group.

In any case, building a lens on Squidoo or researching lenses for homework is safer for kids than chatting with strangers in an unlit chat room.

Squidoo Loves Kids

Here's Proof

Products from Squidoo's own Squidswag store prove that Squidoo has already detailed plans laid out to recruit even the littlest ones.

Stage 1: Squidling - Future Addict Infant
Stage 2: Squidlet - Lensmaster in Training
Stage 3: Squidkin - Kids Already Famous

Proposing The squidkids Tag

To help us find more lenses BY kids, please add the squidkids tag to their lenses! Thank you!

SquidKids Pro and Contra

This lens proposes a Squidoo cobrand similar to SquidLit, SquidBids, SquidVids, etc. themed and geared towards kids. Thus the name SquidKids.

Think there's some merit to the idea? If you have an opinion either way please share it.

Once again: I'm not asking for a childproof version of Squidoo. Just a cobrand (or lens template) like SquidBoo, SquidVids, SquidLit etc.

A Squidoo for kids? What say you?

Aye, I'll second that.

mysticmama says:

Love it... I actually suggested this as a co-brand a few month ago during all the debating about if Squidoo in general should be rated G or PG.

KarateKatGraphics says:

I've been thinking the same thing. If it's not too difficult to make, a cobrand would be awesome!

tandemonimom says:

Love the idea of a SquidKid cobrand! Brilliant!

JaguarJulie says:

Sure, why not? Yesterday at work we were talking about just how smart kids are these days. One woman mentioned her grandson telling her, 'grandma you probably need to delete your cookies ... trust me, delete your cookies.' He was right. The other grandma talked about being ready for her son to connect the peripherals to her TV. And, knowing all about the buttons on the different remotes. Those trip me up!

stargazer00 says:

I think it's a good idea to encourage kids in writing and being an entrepreneur. Good idea!

Nay, don't need it.

chefkeem says:

It is definitely a wonderful idea to focus more on guiding kids into meaningful activities. However, I agree with lensmaster spirituality on the point that Squidoo is quite simple to work with.

How about a new category "Squidkids"? So they are all in one place and easy to find.

spirituality says:

I'll be contrary. I don't see why kids would need a special playground. Squidoo is simple enough as it is, isn't it?

Giant Squidkids - A big shirt to fill

This lens donates to the Inner-City Scholarship Fund!

I would like to contribute in whatever small way I can to this important charitable cause. If you would like to join me here is a very easy way to help. Together we can make a difference, if only in the life of one child. Thank you!

Since 1971, Inner-City Scholarship Fund has invested in the education of more than 116,000 students who live in some of the poorest neighborhoods. Today, 99% of our high school seniors graduate and of these 95% go on to college.

We at Squidoo passionately believe in creating new ways to support good causes online. By making a donation to Inner-City Scholarship Fund from this page, you are sending money directly to that organization, in whatever amount you want. We don't touch it. We don't even see it. The author of this page doesn't either. And if you made it this far, thanks for caring.
