For scholars who just can't wait
Just think in a few minutes, you can build your own entry in the world's database of information; this is the goal for the new Squidoo co-branding tool, SquidKnol.
Developed in response to the announcement by Google about their new Knol project, SquidKnol was created, according to Seth Godin for scholars who just can't wait. (The Google tool is still in development and the first phase of testing. For now, using of Google Knol is by invitation only.)
I decided to try my hand at the new SquidKnol tool, which is more geared to scholarly works with formal writing and academic style. I created two lenses based on my professional expertise.
The first SquidKnol was on Loss, Grief and Bereavement. The second was on Healthy Resolutions and health promotion.
What's a Knol? and other FAQ's
According to the official Google Blogspot, "knol", stands for a unit of knowledge. A knol on a particular topic is meant to be the first thing someone who searches for this topic for the first time will want to read.
How do you pronouncd "Knol"?
"Knol" pronounced like "Call" [knawl] or the first part of "Knowledge." It is not pronounced like "Troll," which is what I thought it rhymed with initially.
What is a Knol (Page)?
For Google a knol is just a web page; they use the word "knol" as the name of the project and as an instance of an article interchangeably.
Further defining a "knol" Google product developers consider the knol (webpage) to be a well-organized, nicely presented with a distinct look and feel, created with a webpage developing tool.
What are the Knol Goals?
The goal is for knols to cover all topics, from scientific concepts, to medical information, from geographical and historical, to entertainment, from product information, to how-to-fix-it instructions.

What People are Saying...
Squidoo strikes back against Google with an interesting front end for a Squidoo lens creator called SquidKnol.
Pretty smart (and funny at the same time) from Seth Godin and the Squidoo team if you ask me. Should be fun to watch how much attention this brings back to Squidoo since the topic of Knols is hot conversation in the online tech and marketing world at the moment.

What's a Sticky Note?
The sticky note looks a quite a bit like a Post-it note, only it's in a Squidoo Lens.
Megan wrote that since we can't call the Sticky Note a Post-it, it's a InstitutionalYellowStickyNote (TM) module.
It is one of the standard SquidKnol modules.

What People are Saying...
Seth Godin's Squidoo knowledge community has created a scholar's entrance called SquidKnol which seems to be a direct reference to Google's Knol initiative.
The interface encourages experts to enter their areas of expertise and credentials in order to create a Squidoo lens which will be indexed all over the Web.
Interestingly, the "sample" lens which is linked from this page is the Insomnia Knol originally written for Google Knol and spotlighted in their press release last week.
Google Knol is still only open by invitation only.
