Squidont: How Not To Make A Squidoo Lens

This lens is an attempt to highlight SQUIDONTS -- which are the types of things one should actively avoid while creating and updating a Squidoo lens.  This page will be constantly updated based on reader input in the Guestbook.  If you have a "Squidont" that should be featured, please share it with the rest of us in the guestbook below, and I will be sure to make the necessary updates in the days ahead.

 Thank you for visiting!

Squidoo!!!

packetlog says:

this may be counter-intuitive to people with more-modules-the-better philosophy. i think we should have as FEW modules as possible. i have a lens where i want people to vote. so i put up an introduction and a poll module. plus comments, of course. this is minimalistic design and i just love it. i will not put 3 more text modules that just confuses the reader. right? thanks.

Squidont!!!

SQUIDONT #1: Squidont Publish a Squidoo Lens Until It Is Actually Ready To Be Seen By The World.

First impressions are often the last impressions. The ultimate success of your Squidoo page will come from readers wanting to return to your lens again and again. If you fail to initially provide a meaningful, well thought out lens, you risk alienating your audience right out of the gate. So take the extra time to make your page worthwhile... squidont rush it!

SQUIDONT #2: Squidont Brazenly List High Ticket Items from Amazon!!!

The odds are slim that someone will randomly buy a large ticket item through your lens...The odds become even slimmer if you don't properly explain why you selected the item(s)...

Below is an example... anyone want to buy a chandelier that costs more than my car?

A DEFINITE SQUIDONT!!!

SQUIDONT #3: Squidont Post Random Pictures of Cute Dogs and/or Family Members

This is Tony's dog... no one is interested and it makes for a lousy Squidoo page. Squidont do it!

SQUIDONT #4: Squidont Forget the HTML!!!

HTML Makes Your Lens Much More Readable and Appealing

Lensmaster N376 has a great Basic HTML for Squidoo lens located here .

Lensmaster N376 will show you how to hyperlink other sites (like I just did above with the word here), and all sorts of other good stuff, such as...

bold
italics
underline

AND much MUCH MORE!!!

HTML makes your lens look much more professional and reader friendly!
