How to add pictures to your tweets on Twitter
TwitterKeys is a small tool (@boris & @sandervdv) developed at The Next Web Blog which provides you with a floating window with all these funny symbols you can use in Twitter. You'll find suns, moons, airplanes, music notes, hearts, stars, happy faces, music notes, telephones,peace sign, yin yang and more.
In this lens there is also information on more twitter apps to find people, search trends, use your email, watch the globe, write a review and more!
Two things to note: TweetDeck users will need to change the apps defult font setting to international in order to use TweetKeys. Also, Mac users will recognize many of these symbols from the Special Characters set found on OS X. While not all of those characters will work cleanly in Twitter, the ones selected for TwitterKeys will.

How Twitter Keys Started
A little more than 24 hours ago we posted a bookmarklet here titled TwitterKeys and then all hell broke loose. Here is what happened before we launched it and what has happened since.
TwitterKeys: the first 48 hours...
On Tuesday evening, just as I was getting ready to go home, I noticed a Tweet on Twitter with a symbol in it which I hadn't seen before. I copy pasted the symbol and Tweeted it:
Sander (@boris & @sandervdv) was working next to me and said "Hey, just open your Character Palette. There are tons of symbols there that you can copy paste". I immediately did and then replied "Very cool, but kind of hard to find. Can't we just put them all in a floating browser window so you can easily copy paste them while you are Twittering?". Sander smiled and said "Sure, and I can even write a Bookmarklet so you can easily access it".
Then I left the office and went home. At 8pm I opened my laptop and found Sander's Bookmarklet code in my Inbox. I did a quick test with the help of a few Twitter users to see which symbols would work on all platforms and by 10 pm I uploaded the files, wrote a simple post with the details and launched the whole thing by Twittering...
TwitterKeys: the first 48 hours...So within a few hours these 4 Big Twitter users promoted Twitterkeys to their combined 95,075 followers. The result? About 15,000 unique visitors to the original blog post within 24 hours, 60+ diggs, lots and lots of TwitterKeys on Twitter, reviews on 150+ blogs and a nice spike in RSS Feed subscribers

I was inspired to share this after reading an article about "twibes", on the social reformer.com. (Follow the author @ twitter.com/redstarvip.) The article is a review of Seth Godin's book Tribes. I was extremely encouraged to find a deeper discussion happening on how this kind of platform can truly change our world.
A tribe and a twibe are very similar. They are both groups of people, who have connections not only to each other, but to a leader and an ideology. Twibes are tribes who use twitter to be change agents in the world. Twitter is often viewed as a quick way to connect with friends and family. The real power however is in connecting leaders and mentors with their followers for the purpose of sharing resources, pictures, video, tips, ideas and stories in 140 characters or less. Twitter is one of the ways to form a communication channel between a tribal leader and its followers.
A twibal leader gives his or her followers what they are seeking most; new ideas,change, connection, and pathways to growth. People will only follow leaders if they authentically demonstrate a solid and credible knowledge of a certain subject or can point in a heartfelt direction to where we might go to effect the change we are all endeavoring to create. Twitter allows all of us to become change agents creating meaningful movements through this exciting and "in the moment" means of communication.

Why sending meaningful updates is important
Being a twibal leader is not about just sending updates on your life
A true tribal or twibal leader sends updates that are related or inadvertently related to his and his followers goals. He or she also sends links to other websites/books they're reading that followers might be interested in. In other words, timely information that is worth retweeting to their own followers. In this way, the leader speaks to a few and influences many. Strategically placed and thoughtful questions are also evidence of leadership on twitter.
