Fresh Squids and Wonder Squids Contest: Community

The Holidays are fast approaching, and we all know that this is the number one time of the year that people "give back" to their Communities. Well, Squidoo is a Community also, and this Challenge is about Giving Back to those that have given to others. Unselfishly, tirelessly, and for no other reason but for the common good of the Community.

The Fresh Wonders is a new Ning Community, started by Michelle (a_willow) to help Squidoo Lensmasters with fewer than 10 lenses navigate Squidoo, and build quality lenses. The Fresh Squids is one part of this Ning community, and the other part are the Wonder Squids. The Group connects old and new - Fresh Squids and Wonder Squids into Fresh Wonders! All to make Squidoo a better Community.

This is the first challenge for the Fresh Wonders Ning Group. It is about community spirit and working together for the betterment of all of us. Squidoo is a Community of not only lensmasters, but Greeters and Angels that help us make our lens better, and Angels that come by and give Blessings to deserving lenses. They support all of us, and now we will do something for them.

Voting will begin at noon on October 26th, and continue till Nov. 1st , so come back and see what the Fresh Wonders have done, and vote for your favorite lens. Also.....EVERYONE is welcome to add their tributes here (just not part of Contest), so you will want to see these also.

What this Contest is all about and How to format your Entry (lens)

What to include in your entry

Did you know that the Squidoo Greeters, Organizers, and Angels are all lensmasters too? They volunteer their time, and as a consequence their own lenses often get put on the back burner in order to help the rest of us. I wrote a couple appreciation lenses to say thank you (with a list of several more to write), and that is what this Challenge is all about-being a good Community Member and giving back to those that give to us.

So here's what you do for this Challenge.Find two Squidoo Greeters, and two of the past or present Angels and make a lens about them, as well as join their fanclub.. You can do it anyway you wish, but you have to include a Featured Module with a few of their lenses (found on their Profile Pages) and write something about why you chose them. Remember all lenses have to be at least 5 Modules and include a Guest book. You chose how you want to do it.

The Contest: Guidelines for Participation

This Contest runs for one week- Monday Oct. 19th to the 25th. After that will be the Judging, and the Contest Winner will receive one of these exclusive Badges, Spotlight Interview and a "little write-up about you" on The Fresh Squid Blog.

Any member of the Ning Community Fresh Wonders is eligible to participate. Fresh Squids and Wonder Squids swimming together in the Squidoo sea - this Group is all about helping and supporting each other! We'll be happy if you decide to join us! If you haven't joined already just contact a_willow aka Michelle Willow, the Group Leader.

Here are some examples of giving Blessings (paying it forward). Use your imagination. Feature a few of the Greeter and Angels who you choose to highlight. Use one Featured Module for Greeters, and another one for Angels. Have fun!

Who are Squid Angels, and how do they Bless Lenses

The list of Angels can be found here, although it's not all inclusive you can find many of the current and retired Squid Angels and learn what each of them looks for in a Bless Worthy lens.

When I asked a couple people (including a few Angels) which Angel, past or present, was the most influential to them the following names were mentioned. Keep in mind I only asked a couple people, and you will have your own favorite. If you don't know any of the Angels go here, sign up for Squid U and read the threads in the Squid U Angels Forum where you can meet the Angels, and even ask them to Bless one of your lenses. Just make sure your lens is complete, and polished before asking for a Blessing. The Link above for Squid Angels will give you an idea of what the Angels are looking for, but be warned it is a very long lens.....if you read the whole thing right now you might get lost :) Me, I favorite lenses like this so I can come back to it when I need to.
