Do You Blog About Squidoo?

A lot of lensmasters use Squidoo to promote their own blogs, and they achieve great results. Same is also true for the opposite, however: if you blog about your lenses, you'll surely start seeing an increase in your visitors, comments, ratings and sales! Even officials agree that blogging about Squidoo is cool.

Perhaps you are one of Squidoo bloggers? Go ahead, add your link to the list. See what others write about, and vote for your favorite blogs (all in good spirit!). If you are not blogging about your lenses yet, now is a good time to start. See how others do it and read the blogging tips below.

Rules for Adding Your Blogs

I want to have as many great and interesting blogs on the list as possible! However, please keep it on topic and only add blogs which either:

  • Write about Squidoo as their primary topic.
  • Frequently mention Squidoo and/or have a Squidoo category.
If you blog about, say, car parts and only mention Squidoo in a single post - that won't work... Sorry!

Here are a few more tips before you decide to add your blog:

  • Enter your blog title in the first field when submitting for better readability. Do not just type in a bunch of keywords.
  • Don't forget to add a description and tell us all how cool your blog is!
Made a mistake in your submission? Don't worry. Just leave a comment in the guestbook below, and I'll edit your entry.

How to Start a Squidoo Blog

When starting a blog, you have to make a choice: either use a hosted service (the one you sign up for), or a stand alone blogging platform (the one you download and install on your own server).

Hosted Blog Platforms

checkAre easier to set up (you just have to signup for the service).
checkAre hosted on the servers of the provider (usually at no cost to the user).
checkAre a great choice for blogging newbies.
checkDon't give you much control over your blog.

Here are some hosted blogging services for you to choose from:

  • SquidTop - a blogging platform created specifically for Squidoo lensmasters. What better place to start blogging about your lenses?
  • Blogger - Google's blogging platform allows you to use custom domains with your blog for free and does not frown upon ads.
  • Wordpress - with a free managed Wordpress.com account you can create a nice-looking and stylish blog. It supports comment spam protection and trackbacks. However you will only be able to use custom domains and other advanced features for a fee.
  • TypePad - provides a lot of useful features, such as stat tracking and easy advertising integration. However, unlike most hosted blog services, TypePad is not free.
Stand Alone Blog Platforms

checkRequire some technical knowledge to set up (although they are just as easy to use).
checkAre hosted on your own hosting package or server (so you have to pay the costs).
checkGive you full control over your blog.
checkAre a great choice for more experienced users or professional bloggers.

Here are some of the most popular blogging platforms that you can install on your own server for you to choose from:

  • Wordpress - the king among blog platforms, combining usability with rich features and out-of-the-box SEO. It is by far the most popular blogging system online, and as a result it has most free themes, plugins and other resources.
  • NucleusCMS is a small and lean publishing platform that can also be extended by using some of the many plugins provided. It boasts an out-of-the-box support for multiple blogs without having to install separate instances of the script.
  • MovableType is a powerful weblog publishing system that is free for personal users since version 3.3. It was the first to adopt the trackback protocol and is developed by Six Apart which also owns TypePad.
