The truth is two fold. One, I love to help the community. There is power in numbers and if we have a place where we can lighten some of the load or pool resources to make a stronger unit, so much the better for everyone. I also love free.
I am going to be upfront and honest on the second fold. I have a stake in this experiment as well. I want to succeed too, and if I can get a sizable community to blog here, then of course it helps me.

SEO Link Wheel
Are Link Wheels Black Hat?
Generally speaking, Black Hat SEO practices are deemed unethical and include any practice that tries to artificially boost a web site's authority with the search engines. Practices such as keyword stuffing and 'doorway' pages are very Black Hat and will get you a big ol' Google slap faster than you can blink an eye.
Some folks feel that Link Wheels are Black Hat because they artificially build authority back links that pass the Google "juice" into the Money Site. On the other hand, those that state that Link Wheels are unethical typically practice what is known as the Link Web. Same thing as a Wheel, but more random.
Which is worse?
Who is to say? But, I will always believe that if you spread solid, genuine content that is relevant and original, you are doing nothing unethical. All that you're are doing is letting the search engines know where your source is by being relevant.
Besides, based on these descriptions of what is Black Hat and what is not, why is good, basic keyword usage not considered unethical. Aren't we trying to artificially boost our authority by using keywords that are long tailed and then adjusted to more general ones as our sites gain a solid foothold in the SERPs?
The following video gives a solid tutorial on what a Link Wheel is and how it works, however, the product he is shilling in the end of the clip would fall in the category of Black Hat in my world. The software uses the practice of article spinning as one of its tactics. To me, that is as bad as it gets on the Internet.
What Do You Think?
Are Link Wheels Abusive?
Link Wheels as we've seen above are considered Black Hat in some circles. Personally, I say they are not, but that would be before human hands touch them and try to cheat. This is true with any concept or anyplace we've gone as a race. There will always be those who try to cheat and there is no fighting them directly.
The best we can hope for is to force them in to some other area......like.......back to selling used cars.
Do you think Link Wheels are Black Hat?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byYes. Very Unethical.
No. Not until enough cheaters abuse them.
seowizardza says:
Content is king and link wheels are hard work, if you follow all the seo guidelines and you are not creating duplicate content, then are we doing wrong? Not everyone uses one source of directory to search with so get the info out there, I say.

I do not believe Link wheels are black Hat at all if used in the manner they were intended for. Unfortunately people tend to want to take the easy way and that is where unethical behavior comes into play.

A link wheel is a system and there will always be folks who try to cheat the system. Doesn't make the system wrong in the first place. Link wheels work and can be used quite ethically.

The way we progress is through experiment. At this point I cannot see unethical behavior. But if we start experimenting we go no ware.
Just my opinion. Keep on blogging.

It depends who is using the Link Wheel. There has to be trust and participants have to see that any unethical behaviour will be dealt with quickly, if it happens.

- I must say that I'm enjoying my experience at the beach. I've created more blogs than I actually thought I would, up to this point. Before joining the Beach, I always thought blogs were more of an on-line journal. (Sigh!)

- Why did I think Crabbysbeach was the blogging community for Aussies and Kiwis?
Ah well. I will correct the problem. Not because I don't have my own domain, but it would be good to have a blog on another domain... and I have an idea for a blog to review other people's lenses.
I haven't forgotten your kindness with the Kirk Gibson lens by the way, Alex, and you're a lovely man even when I'm writing a longwinded, rambling disagreement to one of your blog posts. (I usually keep my mouth shut when I disagree with someone I don't respect.)
Annnyway. Let's see if I can juggle yet another blog. Crabbysbeach has a nice feller behind it. I don't promise to juggle well enough to keep up with the community, but I shall hover at the fringes, as ever.
