First, here's what it is

We're excited to be working with Facebook on something pretty cool for you guys. It's called SquidooConnect, and it uses the popular Facebook Connect application. And it's live now.

The short version is: This new feature will be available to all Squidoo lensmasters within Squidoo, and it will make it super simple for you to share (and spread the word about) your lenses with your Facebook friends.

So if you're on Squidoo and on Facebook, this is your rainbow connection.

If you're not on Facebook, no worry. You can take a pass on these features, and nothing about your Squidoo experience will change.

It's like a bridge

SquidooConnect is like a bridge between Squidoo and Facebook. It helps your friends cross over to see your lenses, and helps you cross over to talk to people about your lenses on Facebook. It's up to you how often you use it!

7 Cool Reasons To Use Squidoo-Facebook Connect

you can come up with your own, of course!

After you've "connected" Squidoo to Facebook using the SquidooConnect bridge, you'll be able to....

1. See how many of your Facebook friends are also here and connected on Squidoo! Check out their lenses and let them know what you think.

2. Invite Facebook friends who aren't on Squidoo yet to join you making lenses here.

3a. What if you started a lens called "What Lens Should I Make Next?" and invited your Facebook friends, the people who know you best, to suggest topics they've always wanted you to write about.

3b. Better yet, what if you started lenses for your closest friends, on the topics you wish THEY would write about? You can give them a head start, invite them via Facebook, and then transfer the lens over to them. A helping hand never hurt.

3c. Stage a popularity contest among your friends. Put them all in a voting Plexo or poll on a lens, and run goofy contests for Genuine Genius, Longest Legs (can you really tell in a headshot photo?) and Most Likely To Do The Dishes Tonight. Let them vote and giggle. What a nice host you are.

3d. Let your imagination run.

4. Post Squidoo updates in your Live Feed. Imagine publishing a great new lens on Yorkshire Pudding Recipes. You want to share it with your friends, right? And your friends are on Facebook, right? So this could make it a snap to let them know about your new lens, with just one click. It's not spam or noise, because they're your friends, and you chose to share the link...

5. Find out what lenses your friends are creating and sharing. Sometimes it's hard to find the newest lenses from the people you admire. If you're connected via Facebook it's a lot easier.

6. What if you ran a HeyMonkeyBrain debate? Imagine getting all your Facebook friends sounding off and debating in one spot. Bonus: It's on a page that earns you royalties along the way...

7. Ooo...what if you start a Facebook Challenge of your very own? Invite all your friends to make just ONE lens this week for an issue you all care about. Then swap and share and spread. Incremental goes monumental, fast.

3 things to know about this application Facebook has created for you

1. Says Facebook HQ: "Users count on Facebook to stay connected to their friends and family. With Facebook Connect, users can take their friends with them wherever they go on the Web."

2. Facebook has a very strong reputation for protecting your privacy. The Facebook Connect features on Squidoo support that.

3. If you're not on Facebook and don't want to be, no worry. Just skip this. Your Squidoo experience won't change a lick.

Questions about SquidooConnect?

post them here!

and check back often... we'll try our best to answer quickly.

But first, try stopping by the SquidU forum to see if your fellow lensmasters already have the answers!

Megan thanks for the new app. I'm usually a late adopter so my first step was learning Twitter and Twttrstrm in the past couple of weeks. Next frontier choosing either My Space or Facebook. But this sounds like an interesting application.

@oneskms -- okay, here's an update! When you're connected to SquidooConnect and publish a lens, you'll be asked if you want to share your update on Facebook (and twitter, etc). The first time you select the Facebook option, you'll see a dialogue and checkbox that says: "always do this for Squidoo Connect" -- followed by a note that you won't be asked again. Unfortunately, this is all Facebook code, and they're not making it easy on us to let people change their minds. But we're looking for a workaround... Thanks for hanging in! -- Megan

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. A few quick answers where appropriate:

@oneskms I think I follow. But I'm not sure the answer (yet). I'll look in to it and get back to you here. there should be a way to change those settings, for sure.

@biggirlblue glad you got to the bottom of it. :)

@teddi14 great to hear!

@shwetashah Nope, if you've FacebookConnected via the link in your Squidoo profile, you won't need to add any applications over on the Facebook side.

I think any new feature that you add here at Squidoo is a bonus and the Facebook one seems a good one to connect with, particularly as it may get some more views to some of my lenses or something along those lines....anyway I'll keep this short as I'm watching the new season of lost and my head is all shot to bits!!!

Firstly seems like a great tool, many thanks.
Could I ask though, the preview I got in my edit lens state doesn't match the one posted onto facebook, I think there was a short option which displays without the lens image. Not sure what I've done but I checked the box at the bottom, I think it was to always use this setting and now my updates post automatically if I'm facebook connected. Is there any way to undo the checked box so I can preview each lens before posting to facebook ?
Hope this makes sense

@Gordon: You're right. Facebook isn't for everyone. I myself have had to pick and choose where I connect with people online, and for a long time it wasn't Facebook. But for the people who do enjoy keeping up with friends and organizing on Facebook, this could be a fantastic new way to get more feedback on and traction for their lenses. Do as much or as little as you like... all I ask is that you have fun. :) -- Megan

Q: I connected to SquidooConnect a few weeks ago, I thought, but I'm not seeing anything new in my Squidoo experience.

A: Doublecheck your SquidooConnect settings on your Profile page.(http://www.squidoo.com/member/profile). Make sure you're connected to the right Facebook account. When you log out of Facebook or out of Squidoo, this will show as "disconnected"

Q: Curious how to get connected?

A: Login to Squidoo, go to your Dashboard, go to your Profile tab, scroll down to Social Settings, and click the Facebook Connect button. That will prompt you to enter (into a Facebook-run and privacy-tested popup) your Facebook login. Bingo. From there you can browse around Squidoo and you'll start seeing fun new Facebook features in places you never expected.

Nope. Just can't deal.

ANDRI says:

i am difficult to use it. my friend also did not interesting with my lens

WhitePineLane says:

I am on Facebook, but like you've discussed above, I'm not sure I want to *mix* my groups of friends. Tried having my Twitter account update my status on Facebook, everyone hated that-- so separated those two. I have a very few Squid friends on Facebook-- those I feel like I "know" a little bit. Have had several other Squids ask to be my Facebook friend-- some Squids that I've never even heard of-- and those are sitting in limbo. Not sure what to do about them. As you said, Megan, you have to pick and choose where you're going to interact with people. So I'm really not sure, but at this moment I'm leaning toward the "Nope. I just can't deal."

Beletro says:

Nope. I prefer to READ books ...*-)

I am not on there yet but my children are and I guess it is time for me to also.

I've been intending to join, but just haven't done it yet.

MarcyG says:

I hope that we will have the option to include/exclude individual lenses from this new feature. I don't want my entire Facebook 'family' seeing the updates to all my lens for example. Some lens updates I would push to Facebook but others I would not want them to see.
