Squidoo has totally changed my life!

April 2009. Happy anniversary to me! It's been two years now since I got started on Squidoo. Wow, what an outstanding ride it has been!

Since I've been a lensmaster on Squidoo, I've learned to think differently from the way I thought before. My powers of observation have totally changed - and definitely for the better. Everything that I hear or see now becomes or reminds me of an idea for a lens. I keep paper and pen handy all the time to jot down ideas. Why, I even asked for (and received) a mini voice recorder for my last birthday to record my thoughts when I can't write them down fast enough. That big blue lens has really been working its magic on me! Why, sometimes when I look down I expect to see orange tentacles typing on the keyboard! Oh, did I mention that I'm making money on Squidoo, too? It's true!

In my two years on Squidoo, countless dishes have remained undone. Countless songs have remained unsung. Countless dreams have remained, uh, undrumd (who has time to sleep?). Yes, I'm a different person now than I was a year ago.

Has Squidoo changed your life, too? Think about it, then write about it in the audience participation module below.

What? You're not a Squidoo lensmaster yet? We can fix that! Sign up here and let your wild ride begin!

"I'm being attacked by a giant orange squid!!! AGGGHHHH!!!" by mandaroo63

Hey, look there! An orange squid!

By the way, what is Squidoo?

(The Wiki Version)

Squidoo is a community website based in Hastings on Hudson, N.Y. that allows users to create pages (called lenses) for subjects of interest. Lenses are interactive, and can contain Flickr photos, Google maps, blogs, eBay auctions, YouTube videos, and other links. Squidoo is in the top 200 most visited sites in the world, and in the top 50 most viewed in the United States.Squidoo.com traffic details Alexa.com. It has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to charity.

I'm a GIANT!

May 2, 2008

Whew! I didn't expect it but when I heard that the new class of Giant Squids had been announced, I took a peek at one of my lenses just in case and, whadaya know, there was a Giants badge on my profile! I did it! I qualified as a Giant Squid on Squidoo!

It's been 24 hours now and the news is still sinking in, but I'm convinced at last that I didn't dream it. I am simply unable to describe how excited - and how humbled - I am about this honor.

You won't know how that actually feels until you're there, so if you're still working towards Giant Squid status, keep it up. The reward will be worth the effort, I promise. To find out how to qualify, read Megan's lens here.

What's Bigger Than a Giant Squid?

A Giant Squid 100 Club Squid!

January 13, 2009.

Another step up the Squidoo ladder today. Wow! I qualified for the Giant Squid 100 Club!

With all the great lensmasters on Squidoo and nearly a million lenses total, it's hard for me to imagine what special honors that don't even exist yet might be in this Squid's future. It just keeps getting better and better, and I wouldn't miss this ride for anything!

Find out how you can qualify for the Giant Squids 100 Club.

It's a bird, it's a plane, no - it's a SquidAngel!

What an honor!

September 2008 and another honor. I was chosen as one of the new group of Angels on Squidoo. Wow!

Have you heard of us? SquidAngels are lensmasters who are selected to give special boosts, usually referred to as blessings, to lenses that are extra well done. Angels also have the power to "ding" lenses that are, well, spammy. The blessings help to boost lensrank while the "dings" knock those not-so-good lenses back down the ladder where they belong. In other words, Angels help the cream of the Squidoo crop rise to the top.

I can promise you that there are many more blessings than dings in Squidoo land because there are so many wonderful lensmasters who know how to make a great lens. You can read Megan's official explanation of the SquidAngel program on the SquidU forum here and you can actually request a blessing of one of your own lenses on the forum here.

This SquidAngel sometimes lets the lensmaster know about the blessing but often flies under the radar with surprise little thumbs-up boosts, so keep making great lenses and if you see an unexpected boost, likely one of the Angel flock has found your lens! Just another service that helps keep Squidoo great.

Update. I've served two angel terms, six months, and am now on hiatus. When you see an angel, bless his or her day by saying thanks for the work they do on Squidoo. Because they do do work. Good work.

What Goes With Orange? Purple, of course!

Especially if it's in the form of a purple star!

Purple Star on Squidoo April 16, 2009, the day after my second anniversary on Squidoo, the Purple Star program on Squidoo was announced and one of my lenses was among its first recipients!

The Purple Star is an award for Giant Squids only and comes with its own special perks. If you're not a Giant yet, this program might be just the thing to motivate you to build your first 50 quality lenses. The Purple Star lens explains how it works. Hey, go for it!

Hi Susan,

I just thought I'd look for some more of your lenses.

I am now inspired to allow Squidoo to change my life.

Of course it hasn't happened yet, as I am so very new,
but, if I work at it diligently, we'll see what happens.

I am going to try to give you 5 *-if I figure it out.

Thanks for the information

Wow! I'm inspired. I hope Squidoo can change my life too. I just started almost two month ago and I originally began using it as just a tool to drive traffic to my website but then it turned out to be better than my website was....lol Any advice you can give me on my Daycare School lens and my Sign Language lens would be most appreciated. I look forward to your comments and wish you all the best of luck on your next 20 years of Squidoo! God bless you!

I'm addicted too, but happily so. I keep advancing "the ward off Alzheimer's argument" to justify spending every spare moment on Squidoo. Squidoo pushes my buttons, especially my creative urge. I can integrate it into everything I do or want to accomplish. For instance, I've just created a lens for my community choir and it has helped to develop a real sense of community. The applications for Squidoo are endless - so there is no end to new learning, which I love. Susan congrats on your anniversary - looking forward to seeing you reach your new Squidoo goals. You are a shining example of creativity and humor on Squidoo and we, as a community, are richer for your contribution.

Squidoo provides the catalyst to break loose the logjam of our need to participate in creative expression! The genius of having this organized tribal community (Kudo's Seth) with bright leadership...urging more creativeness and quality on ready made modules is evident in the impressive array of "good stuff" to be found here... so yes, for those who grasp the opportunity to stoke the creative fire that burns within us all by creating a lens...their life is undeniably changed in a positive way.... and they get feedback in the interest and support of others... and that feeds the fire to burn brighter and hotter! Squidooing is a seductive and addictive passion and that is life changing! The help and encouragement available here is second to none and is a fundamental blessing for all squids. Fanned, Favored, lensrolled and Stars.

I must admit that Squidoo has changed my life. I enjoy the addiction! I have become a much more forced individual who has something to do everyday. Self expression is a wonderful thing! Susan, I just happen to be wearing an orange top, I love orange! - Thanks for sharing your memories with me of your children s tipi adventure, I'd love to see the photo.

Boy, this is nice. I love hearing about someone's journey here, I have found that in the just 4 months I have been here (my recent anniversary) my mind works differently. Do you think that Squidoo will prevent alzheimer's as other brain exercises do? I have 55 lenses, but will have to wait a couple of months for my magic giant, but I will love it! 5*

Squidoo has given me a life line as I learn to cope with what is currently a very at times debillitating condition (stand by for my lens on this topic...) My family are also being very supportive of a Mum who has changed from a very fit and active one to one who has to take it easy at the moment.

This is a lovely lens that I can really identify with. 5*s and favourited.
