Create a Lens (or Two or Three) to Benefit California Fire Survivors

All Squidoo lensmasters are encouraged to create a lens or two or even three as part of the SquidAid and the Squidoo Fire Aid Challenge to benefit California Fire Survivors.

We're asking all Squidoo lensmasters to make a lens or two or three with funds designated to the Squidoo Charity Fund or Save the Children or the Human Society.

This lens has information on making a lens, becoming a SquidAid Responder and joining the Squidoo Fire Aid Challenge to benefit California Fire Survivors.

Make Lenses * Aid Survivors * Squidoo Fire Aid

Squidoo Headquarters has earmarked 50% of the funds generated from the Squidoo Charity Fund lens royalties from both the months of October and November 2007 to be donated to aid the fire victims.

The more lenses that are made during November, the more revenue there will be to donate for California Fire Survivors.

Megan has already donated of $1,000 from the Squidoo Charity Fund from previous months directly to the Relief Efforts for the fire victims.

More about the California Fires of October 2007

The Southern California Fires are the first natural disaster since 2005 to occur on the destructive scale of Hurricane Katrina and Rita.

The California Wildfires were declared a Federal Disaster Area on October 24, 2007 by FEMA, The Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The Series of fires that burned at the end of October damaged nearly 500,000 acres and destroyed roughly 1,800 homes, mostly in San Diego County. The property damage in San Diego County alone has surpassed $2 billion.

As with the aftermath of Katrina, relief, recovery and rebuilding efforts will take years. Lensmasters can help by creating a lens or two and show the support of the Squidoo Community for the Southern California Fire Survivors.

A Squidoo Lens on the California Fire

The lens that I created for the Southern California Fire that 'sparked the flame' to develop the Squidoo Fire Aid idea.

The lens benefits the Squidoo Charity Fund and Save the Children.

Join the Squidoo Fire Aid Challenge

Squidoo Fire Aid is a fundraiser specifically for the Survivors of the recent California Fire.

It is very easy for the Squidoo Community to aid California Fire Survivors by using your lensmaster skills and the Internet to create a lens, or two or three.
  1. Pick a charity recipient - the Squidoo Charity Fund, Save the Children, the Humane Society or a combination.
  2. Make your lens on something related to the charity, the fire, organizations involved or something else you care about.
Please be sure that you submit a quality lens and no R or X rated lenses. We are trying to generate funds for a good cause.
  3. Include the Squidoo Fire Aid or SquidAid graphic for your chosen charity in a text/write module.
  4. One version of the Squidoo Fire Aid Graphics--the badges--are on this page. Other larger versions of the Squidoo Fire Aid Graphics (the ovals) as well as the SquidAid graphic can be found on the More Squidoodles lens.
  5. Add a link back (in a Link Module or Featured Lens) to the SquidAid lens and/or this Squidoo Fire Aid lens.
  6. Join the SquidAid Group so we can keep track of all of the new lenses being made as a part of SquidAid and the Squidoo Fire Aid.
  7. Finally, let us know about your lens(es). Post your lenses in the lens plexo for your chosen charity on this page.
  8. Be sure to grab a copy of your SquidAid Responder Badge.

Four Ways to Aid California Fire Survivors

Participate in the Squidoo Fire Aid Challenge

You can make a lens to benefit different Fire Survivors...the adults, the families, the children or the animals.

You might want to make a lens to thank all of the Firefighters and the Volunteers who helped in the California WildFires.
  1. Make a Lens to Benefit the Squidoo Charity Fund.
  2. Make a Lens to Benefit Save the Children.
  3. Make a Lens to Benefit the Humane Society of the United States.
  4. Change the settings on an already existing lens or lenses to benefit one of the three charities listed above.

Make a Lens to Benefit the Squidoo Charity Fund

Use the Internet and your lensmaster skills to show your support for the California Fire Survivors.

Create a lens that benefits the Squidoo Charity Fund. Megan has already made a donation of $1,000 from the Charity Fund directly to the Relief Efforts for the fire victims.

With matching funds from the California Community Foundation, the SquidAid donation will be doubled to $2,000.

In addition, half of all proceeds generated from lenses made that benefit the Squidoo Charity Fund will be donated directly to the Red Cross California Wildfire Relief Fund for the Months of October and November.

SquidAid Results So Far

The response for SquidAid from Headquarters and the Powers that be has already been very remarkable and generous.

Megan has committed the following resources to SquidAid from the Squidoo Charity Fund:
    1. A donation of $1,000 from the Charity Fund from
previous months directly to the Relief Efforts for the fire victims.

    2. An additonal commitment to donate half of the Squidoo Charity Fund's earnings during the months of October and November to Relief Efforts for the fire victims.
The California Community Foundation and/or the San Diego Foundation's After-the-Fires Fund 2007 are the suggested recipients, since the Red Cross has already met their costs for the California Fires.

Doubling our Contribution
The California Community Foundation is a leading contender since they will match the first $250,000 in contributions to the Southern California Wildfire Relief Fund and waive administrative fees to ensure all donations will be used for relief activities. Donating to Cal Fund is an easy way to double the strength of the SquidAid donations.

Future Efforts of SquidAid

Going forward, our team of advisers will assist us in monitoring situations as they arise and putting the power of SquidAid and it's resources at the ready to lend assistance to survivors of major disasters.

With funds available from lenses that benefit the Squidoo Charity Fund we will have more resources at the ready to lend aid to survivors of future major disasters, much like the Red Cross.

In addition, now with the SquidAid concept, we will be able to quickly mobilize the virtual Squidoo Community to aid survivors of current and future disasters.

Make a Lens to Benefits Save the Children

Another option to use the Internet and your lensmaster skills to show your direct support for the California Fire Survivors.

Create a lens that benefits the Save the Children's U.S Emergency Fund. A lens that benefits Save the Children can benefit California Fire Survivors for the life of the lens.

Save the Children partnered with the American Red Cross to equip many of California's wildfire evacuation shelters with safe play areas that allowed children to play, participate in structured activities and interact with other children in a secure environment.

Save the Children Headquarters

You can create a lens through the Save the Children Headquarters and select Save the Children your charity of choice.

The traffic you send and the royalties your lens generates will help support Save the Children programs.
