Your resume on a Squidoo lens?
I like resumes very much - although I have a great job, I open my CV once a month, and I make some minor modifications. It's very nice to see my resume developing. And, when the time is right and I want to find another job, my CV will be perfect. There are two serious problems with "paper" resumes, though, so I wonder: is it worth creating a CV lens? I think the answer is YES.

Cons of 'paper' CVs

I like resumes very much - although I have a good job, I open my CV once a month, and I make some minor modifications. It's very nice to see my resume developing. And, when the time is right and I want to find another job, my CV will be perfect. There are two problems with "paper" CVs, though.
The first is that you need to protect the document from being deleted. Your computer can collapse, someone else can accidentally delete the file, etc, so you have to copy it to your USB drive, upload it into your email account or website space. This is inconvenient, and can be dangerous if you forget to save your CV. In addition, pendrives can disappear or be stolen, accounts can be suspended.
The second problem is when you modificate your CV often and copy it to many places, you won't be able to decide which is the latest version. You may send an old CV to a company, which can cause you many troubles during the interview.
As you can see, the paper CVs are not perfect. You can also create a website with your data on it, but it's neither free nor easy. You need to register a domain, you need webhosting, you have to create and regularly update the page itself... Too much work and money.
What you need in addtition to your paper and/or pdf version is a free online solution. Something that looks cool, and where you can update your data easily. And this is Squidoo :)

Lens creation steps
In the next part I'll show you how I made my own Squidoo resume lens. I've created it in four easy steps, then I opened my CV and filled the lens modules with data.
While you are following these steps, you can always check my CV lens.
Lens is created
Congratulations! You've just created the lens. Let's add more content.
Any suggestions?

- Use keywords to highlight what your all about. Then explain each keyword. For myself, I'm all about Automatic Residual Income. I help people achieve the same
-
Next step: add modules!
You need about 5-10 text modules, 6 Blackbox modules and a Guestbook Comment module.
You can also use:
- Video module
- Photo gallery module
- Link list module
- About me module
The main parts
- 1Employment (your work experience)
- 2Education (schools, trainings, courses)
- 3Professional skills (those skills that you are using at work)
- 4Language skills (it's a huge plus if you speak more than one languages)
- 5Interests and hobbies
- 6Contact information (address, email address, phone number, Facebook address, etc.)
- 7Optional: achievements (in sports, college or your personal life)
Fill your lens with life!
You can write about yourself, post pictures or videos.
You can also add a short desciption about your strengths and your personality.
Very important rules!
Be serious. A resume must be formal - do not post any funny pictures or videos!
Show your uniqueness. If you have a creative profession (artist, designer, writer, etc.), post samples of your works!
Triple check grammar. Your resume mustn't contain any grammatical error or mistyping.
Lens structure
You need to arrange your modules as following:
1st Blackbox Module (Employment)
Text module (your current or last job)
Text module (previous job)
...
2nd Blackbox Module (Education)
Text module (College)
Text module (Professional courses)
...
...and so on. Include all the key information.
Stop for a quick queston
You're almost finished, but you can add more content.
Some ideas
- Your thesis
- The pdf version of your CV
(Instructions)
- Your works (pictures, articles, website designs)
- Links to companies where you worked, the schools and courses you attended
- A table of contents
QR-code as contact information

More and more people put a QR-code into their resume, because these codes are very useful and, in addition, they look nice.
Our contact information could get into the smartphone of the HR specialist in an instant. Besides, we can make our resume even more unique - a QR code is not a frequently used object on CVs (yet). So why shouldn't we put this code to our lens resume?
The QR code can contain the following information: Name, Email-address, Phone-number, URL. I suggest you to use the first 3, but you can add another QR-code(s) with a link to your blog, facebook profile, about page, online portfolio, etc.
You can check my resume to see how I added a QR code with my contact information.
A question regarding the QR-code
Now you know everything.
Go and create a CV lens! :)
