Squidoo Magazines: Content Submission Guidelines

Everything you need to know...

We bet you're here because you'd like to be a magazine contributor. (If you found this page some other way, you can read more about Squidoo Magazines right here.)

If you haven't already, you might want to fill out this form to give us your details and get updates -- or follow @SquidooMags on Twitter. Then, take a look at the submission requirements on this page in order to get started.

Below we've included information about article length, bio length, what to do with photos and how best to give us the option of featuring your content prominently on the main page of the magazine you submit it to. Read these through, follow the instructions, and you'll be in great shape!

Official guidelines for your submissions:

  • Word .doc or .rtf file for articles is fine. 300-words minimum, 1,200-words max.

  • Important: In order to feature your article prominently, we need you to give us at least one interesting, engaging, high quality image at 590px wide - preferably with people in it. We can't promise to feature your article this way, but we must have an image like this to have the option.

  • Images should be ones you own, or Creative Commons licensed images, and we ask that you include information on who to credit for each photo. Each image should also be in a separate file (please do not embed in the Word .doc). If the photo(s) you're submitting have been posted online, be it on flickr, your blog, or elsewhere, please provide a link to the original as well.

  • Excerpts from other content on the web should be brief and include links to the original page. Please do not submit full reposts of work by others; this means text content, photos, graphics and other information. If you have a question about whether your excerpt crosses this threshold, ask the original author, blogger or website administrator for permission first.

  • In your bio, please provide complete cut-and-pastable URLs for us to link to. The bio should be roughly 80 words - shorter is okay. (Longer is not okay.)

  • Feel free to link to a blog, Amazon page, whatever is most appropriate for your bio. Nothing illegal, hateful, or pornographic, please.

By submitting content you warrant...

  • That the content has been authored by you and that no other party has a claim to the copyright. If you cite a book / movie, or quote a portion of previously published material not authored by you, please provide the full title and author / director name.

  • That the Squidoo Magazine you submit to has your permission to post the material you send to us and edit as appropriate to the magazine, with the understanding that each post may be accompanied by your name, a short bio, links to your site, and your thumbnail photo or logo if provided.

  • That if you've any problems or questions, you'll email us!
