What are Squidoo Module Pages?

Squidoo recently released a brand new feature called Squidoo Module Pages. What exactly is a Squidoo Module Page?

A Squidoo Module Page is a stand alone webpage that is automatically generated by Squidoo for each of several different interaction modules, ie. Duels, Comments, and Plexos. It allows you the lensmaster to send just the interaction module out via email, twitter or just about any other place you would like to publicize your topic.

The Squidoo Module Page is a way for you to publicize your lens in a new way, interact with your readers with just one module, gain more revenue from a single lens, and have multiple new avenues to link to your lens.

The picture to the left is a Link Plexo Module Page for my lens Eco-Chic Green Fashion.

Squidoo Lens Page

This is the main page of your lens that you create

Squidoo

I am going to use my lens Eco-Chic Green Fashion to demonstrate the Squidoo Module Pages, because this lens has several interaction modules that have their own Squidoo Module Pages.

The picture above is the main lens, which you can see looks like a lens does from the lensmaster screen. This is what every lens looks like to the lensmaster that creates it. Nothing has changed here with the addition of the module pages.

Squidoo Poll Module

Share the poll module only

Squidoo Poll Module

If you scroll down the page of Eco-Chic Green Fashion, you can see that the first module after the table of contents links is the Poll Module.

Squidoo has changed the appearance slightly of the Poll Module, by adding a button at the top right that tells the reader how many people have taken the poll, and a button on the bottom right of the Poll Module, that allows you to share the Poll Module only. When you click on the second button, a pop-up box comes up that gives you several choices of how to share the poll.

When you share this Poll Module, you will actually be sharing the Poll Module Page (pictured below).

This new feature allows you to send out the poll without the rest of the lens, but still draw people to the lens. If you notice, on the sidebar of the Poll Module Page is a list of links to places in your lens, along with your introduction lens photo.

Publicize Your Lens in a New Way

If you have been on Squidoo for more than a few months, you will have updated your lenses a few times, and promoted them on social networking sites, on Twitter, in forums, and so on. But now instead of just sending out the entire lens, you can highlight features of your lens. You can push the poll, and get people to send the poll to their friends. You can gather many more statistics, and at the same time, draw people to your lens in a simpler way.

And the bonus is that you can send the Squidoo Module Page out to the world the same way you did with your entire lens. You can tweet it, digg it, bookmark it and so on.

Squidoo Link Plexo Module

Squidoo Link Plexo Module

If you scroll down the lens Eco-Chic Green Fashion, the next interaction module is the Link Plexo Module, which also looks slightly different than before. At the top right of the module, you will notice a button that shows the number of links in the plexo. At the bottom right is another drop down button to share the plexo. Again, this button will share the Squidoo Link Plexo Module Page if you share the Link Plexo Module. This page is pictured below.

Interacting with Your Readers

Are you maximizing the interaction with each interaction module?

The Squidoo Module Pages give you the opportunity to interact even more with your readers. If your readers are interested in your topic, then they will also be interested in voting on plexos, adding comments, adding to a discussion in a duel, or voting in a poll. You can blog about your plexo list and ask for additions. There are just so many ways that you can interact and create more interest in your topic, and often pick up ideas from your readers to expand your lens or create a new one.

To show you how this works, I have set up a plexo module just below this one to ask you a question. Answer the question and share the plexo with your friends. Then you can vote on the best answer.

What is the best way to use the Squidoo Module Pages?

Add your answer and description to the list, then refresh the page and vote.

Another Squidoo Module Page is generated by my favorite interaction module, the Duel Module. At the top right of the page, you will see a button the shows you how many responses you have in your module both for and against your Duel topic. At the bottom right, you will find the button that will share the Squidoo Duel Module Page (pictured below).

Gain More Revenue from Each Lens

The Squidoo Module Pages have ads on them just like your regular lens. These are ads generated by the Squidoo system. At this time you cannot put your own links or adds that are not in the actual modules from the original lens page. However, if a reader clicks on any ad link that is on the module page, the revenue goes to the ad pool that it would from the main lens page.

I love the Squidoo Module Pages.

elynmac says:

Like em. Good stuff. and thank you for your lens - I learned some new stuff from it.

wally_b says:

I love it! Modules make people want to get involved, which is good for any lensmaster. Great job!

Dexter says:

Why do I need to give my opinion? Why does anyone want my freaking opinion? Do you care about me? Do you want my opinion? I'll give you my freaking opinion anyway. I like this, but not as much as I like keeping in touch with you.

_Joan_ says:

I like them a lot. I love tweeting interesting Polls and Duels that I find on people's lenses. Especially things that would be of interest to people who are not Squidoo members.

QueSea says:

Squidoo Module pages are terrific! I can see many uses for them. They allow me to be more creative with my existing lenses by allowing me to be more flexible in the way I share what I publish. This is something I've wanted for a long time. Kudos to Squidoo Developers for coming up with this one!

deepakeapen says:

Really very informative !

deepakeapen says:

Excellent lens, very informative !!! Thanks

aj2008 says:

I am going to try this for the "Which Narnia book do you like best" Poll on my er..Narnia lens to see what happens.

Misterioso says:

Thanks for your good work! I am new to all this, so I find your lens quite helful. I will have to study it more carefully later.

Misterioso says:

Being new to cyberspace in general and to Squidoo in particular, I find this lens very helpful. I will bookmark it and study it carefully at a later time. Thanks for your good work!

spirituality says:

So far I like the module pages. I found the one for the guestbook before I read the announcement. I'm not sure yet whether I'll be doing anything with them. I haven't figured out yet how to. But I do think it's likely readers will be sharing specific modules in future. Which surely should work well.

BevsPaper says:

I think that are a wonderful addition to an already great system. It enhances our abilities to promote and also interact with our readers. Quite innovative and forward thinking on the part of HQ.

I don't like the Squidoo Module Pages.

astire says:

Module pages are good but "Module only pages" are not good. Good mix of content with related modules makes a lens interesting

lakeerieartists says:

Jimmie, I think that you are misunderstanding the way the pages are working right now. If you click the link, it sends the module page, but you don't see it then. If you send it to Twitter for instance, then click the link that comes up, you will be going to the module page instead of your original lens. If you were asking a question on a lens for homeschooling, you could just send out the question to a forum of readers, to get a response to that question only.

Jimmie says:

The modules that have pages are my least favorite ones. I doubt I'll ever use these. And I found that a lot of them don't even work. The page stays the same even after clicking on the link.

Squidoo Module Pages Give the Lensmaster Multiple New Links Directed to the Main Lens

Squidoo automatically generates numerous links to various parts of your lens

If you look at the individual Squidoo Module Pages, you will notice numerous links to your main lens. There is the module being featured, and also at minimum the table of contents in the right sidebar. At the bottom of the page is a link to the main lens also. Just that many more pathways leading to your lens page.
