Squidoo Achievment Level

One of the many reasons for Squidoo's success is all the incentives, grades, trophies, points and levels they provide. These give lensmasters of all levels the impression that they are making progress. An Angel Blessing being awarded to one of your lens is always encouraging. Do you need a Squidoo Business Plan?

How to succeed at Squidoo

Squidoo Business PlanYou may already have noticed that some lenses get lots of traffic but make few sales while others with less traffic make decent sales, and you probably like me have a whole bunch of lenses that get neither traffic or sales. High traffic lenses which make few sales can be however be very lucrative if their subject matter attracts high paying Adsense.

So we have to make choices do we want to earn money or do we want to be creative or just have fun? For me given the time I devote to Squidoo I need to make money and although I had to go through a learning curve to discover which lenses make money I can no longer justify creating commercially successful lenses by hit or miss. In future must deny myself the pleasure and freedom of choosing lens subjects just on a hunch or whim, no I must research my lenses subjects carefully and seriously, do my due diligence and keyword research. What about you?

If you liked this lens please vote for it

It will encourage me to improve it!

Have you got a Squidoo "Business Plan?"

I joined Squidoo in 2008, and had my personal "aHa" moment very recently, after which time I totally changed my strategy on Squidoo and am now beginning to make sales. I got my first 1099 for last year, so I guess you could say I'm starting to grok it. My best tip is pay attention to where your traffic is coming from, and when you see what is working for you, do more of it and see where you can scale it.
  • TrendyBoots Feb 21, 2012 @ 12:38 am | delete
I am working on a strategy. I spend a lot of time bumping around reading other lenses from people who are doing well. I have always believed that success leaves clues.
  • Image_Girl Jan 23, 2012 @ 7:23 pm | delete
I've been here Five years. For four of them all money went to charities. I have earned a tiny amount after I became more active here. My aha moment came recently when I tied in a lens to my zazzle art and started generating sales there. That was a shock! My plans are to develop deep lenses with helpful content! My biggest tip - plan out the name / theme / URL before writing a word! :)
  • bikerministry Jan 20, 2012 @ 8:16 am | delete
I discovered Squidoo in April 2011, started writing. My "Aha Moment" came when I got SquidAngel blessings and when my first lens went 100% published. I have made $35.00 since I started, December's should double that when we get paid in Feb. My best tip is be real, with integrity. Be the expert in your own field and pay attention to detail. I'm compiling a business plan and publishing it in an e-book.
  • BuddyBink Dec 16, 2011 @ 8:07 pm | delete
It has only been six weeks but I do not remember how I discovered Squidoo. My Aha moment came when I got my first thumbs up, I knew then I could have an impact. My best tip is to read and learn, ask questions, participate in the forums and write.
  • Mickie_G Nov 22, 2011 @ 9:41 am | delete
Tip: be patient and just have a good time. Tip 2: do not get caught up in the "make money" cause. Unless you are a real pro and understand all the ins and outs of it, you will not make significant income (enough to pay most of your bills). It is hard work and the competition is growing by leaps and bounds.
  • bames24 Nov 16, 2011 @ 1:15 am | delete
I have not even thought of making a business plan... guess I better work on one... :)
  • franstan Oct 4, 2011 @ 1:42 am | delete
I never thought of creating a Squidoo Business plan but it does make sense to do so
  • agoofyidea Sep 5, 2011 @ 9:41 pm | delete
Boy, you mentioned a lot of things I had never heard about. Thanks for the information. I am going to find out how to use as much of this as possible. I want to find really success on Squidoo. Great lens.
  • KathyT Aug 15, 2011 @ 7:02 pm | delete
I mentioned in an earlier comment that I initially heard about Squidoo through 1-week marketing - but I'm not convinced that the program is as timely as it once was. Nonetheless, it really helped get me started.

Last summer I was blessed to receive a "Sunshine Award" about my "Making a Squidoo Lens is Easier than Cleaning a Mouse Nest out of the car..." and that fired me up a lot! It was gratifying to have been able to earn a little money for a cause, as well.

You now have me thinking about becoming a little more serious about a plan, because Squidoo is just such an amazing and marvelous tool we have - not to mention a vibrant and robust community!

You did a really nice job on this lens! :) Kath

***just a thought! - this is the first time I have thought that adding comments after polls should have everyone elses answers first, as I so loved reading their answers and then to addin my own, anyway, I giggled at this, when you spoke about your own goals on Squidoo, Yep those lenses that get little traffic can make killer sales - big traffic makes hardly any, writing for your audience with a credit card in hand is sometimes boring, and defies everything you learn as a writer. BUT....I love squidoo and like Dinasour Egg I need to "create" a writtenpiece once in a while, and I now can set those to earning for Charity which is lovely, as Squidoo has enabled me to write online and Earn.
this is a really creative piece, And although I have set GOALS - it kind of incorporates a buisness plan. This lens also shows how many of us have stuck it out, when the going got tough, kind of over that steep climb! And are indeed on our way to Success.
Fab pge and Blessed by a passing Angel

I have a business plan. I still do stuff just for fun too though, or to get a subject out of my system. My aha moment was about a month after joining when a Halloween lens took off.
  • LKW31 Jul 15, 2011 @ 5:21 am | delete
I am making slow but steady progress! Thanks for the great lens!
  • kar351 Jul 8, 2011 @ 11:46 am | delete
I already knew Squidoo for a couple years but never gave it much importance, until one day I found out a cool mom (PotPieGirl) in another marketing site talking about Squidoo. I gave it a try and I was amazed how cool and fun it was to make a Lens. After that I never looked back. I made some money (very very low) but I guess I need more time, more work and more experience. Who knows where will be my Squidoo experience for a year or 2 from now...

    Tipi is my God! :)
  • olpampam Jul 3, 2011 @ 1:51 pm | delete
Wow, good for you, Tipi. I haven't had any major Squidoo sales, but I just started, so I don't expect much yet. I am starting to have some success with Zazzle though and it took me a few months to get started, so I think I'm pretty realistic with my expectations.
  • Tipi Jun 6, 2011 @ 8:06 am | delete
When I reached my goal to earn $500 a month back in early 2010, I set a goal to earn $1000 a month by the end of that year. Now, my goal is to earn $1500 a month by mid-year, and $2000 by the end of the year. May the force be with me!

My best Squidoo tip is to roll-up your sleeves and work like a mad dog...
  • GospelSmith May 26, 2011 @ 6:51 pm | delete
I probably need a strategy, but haven;'t had time to think about it because my wife and I were finishing a book, MindLostMindFound. As we finished, we moved...
But thanks for challenging me to think in terms of a strategy!

Wow, my Aha moment came when I got paid royalties. I didn't join Squidoo for the money and when I made some, that was a big Aha. Sent me to searching all about Squidoo more and what the possibilities were. I say it's easy money because its something I love doing in my spare time. I could create wonders with lots of free time. I make enough for gas every month with a very minimal amount of time spent on Squidoo.
  • DaveHiggsVis May 16, 2011 @ 5:37 pm | delete
    Wow! What a lens!!!
  • avgsuperheroine May 15, 2011 @ 4:27 pm | delete
I put some content here when I closed a site two years ago so I wouldn't lose it. Then after joining zazzle I put some links on. I was hooked when my zazzle affiliate sales raced past my royalties, it's awesome! I really like it here, always something new to learn
  • Joan4 May 12, 2011 @ 5:03 pm | delete
I have been around Squidoo since 2007 and yes, have made some money - had a great Christmas 2010! Learning every day! My best tip is to stay involved with other lensmasters, read tons of lenses, and learn how to use key words!
  • Greekgeek May 9, 2011 @ 2:10 pm | delete
Business plan, yes, although things don't always go as planned.

The #1 tip is that if you are on Squidoo for money, rather than simply for the joy of sharing what you want to write about or raise awareness about something (both of which are perfectly valid reasons to use Squidoo), you need to learn SEO.

As an aside, a lot of us joined the Squidoo "5 goals for 2011" challenge. Google:

    site:squidoo.com five goals

and you will find a number of them. Many people are discussing how they plan to achieve those goals, too.

My Aha moment happened when I found a very nice lens that was explaining how to use Squidoo lenses in order to make money. I decided to care about really learning how to create lenses. Later I saw that it takes time to make money this way. However, lenses are excellent traffic generating sources, I get many backlinks from them, and their creation is fun.

My theme on my squidoo lens is about exploring what greatness really is. I add new modules and improve older modules with more and better content. The keywords I am using are not what a lot of people are searching for according to the free Keyword search tools that are available. So I don't get a lot of people finding my squidoo lens. For now I don't know where to go.
  • thesuccess May 1, 2011 @ 3:40 am | delete
    Jeff,
Can you find a way to get good keywords into your lens?
  • karmicchristian Apr 23, 2011 @ 5:50 am | delete
I write on theology and theophilosophy. Here to share my thoughts and opinions. Thank you and have a wonderful day.
  • LizMac60 Apr 22, 2011 @ 1:44 pm | delete
My big mission on Squidoo is to promote Bible stories because many people don't know them any more. They are full of ancient wisdom which we need in this modern world. I would like to see my visits soar upwards. I found this lens gently helpful.
  • Rafick Apr 21, 2011 @ 12:21 am | delete
My job is writing. My main objective by being on Squidoo is to write as much non-fiction as possible in parallel with writing fiction out of Squidoo. Then, whether I've earned a dime or not on Squidoo will not matter because I'll have hundreds of pages of non-fiction on my favorite subjects from which I'll be able to choose the best writings and compile one or more books. I think if I focus too much on making my lenses work or earn then quality will decline, or maybe I'll tend to produce more commercial lenses which don't really belong to my field of interest.
  • thesuccess Apr 21, 2011 @ 2:00 am | delete
    Rafick,
Great comment; we all have different reasons for being on Squidoo, the desire to be creative is a very important one!
  • iSandy Apr 20, 2011 @ 10:06 pm | delete
Fun way to learn, thanks for doing something different!
  • darciefrench Apr 20, 2011 @ 5:45 pm | delete
Keyword research is my biggest tip- do it first before making a lens. I have a lot of lenses that are great lenses but they could be even better with better keywords in their urls. I have some lenses that were #1 on Google almost immediately- because the keywords were so specific.
  • thesuccess Apr 20, 2011 @ 6:03 pm | delete
    Darcie,
The more I learn about Internet Marketing the more I realize that Keyword Research is vital more important than SEO because even brilliant SEO cannot rescue a bad business idea!
  • lbos114 Apr 20, 2011 @ 5:06 pm | delete
Nice, simple, informative.... all I have to say :)
  • ravenko Apr 20, 2011 @ 4:37 pm | delete
Tip: Just Be patient, I just made my first amazon sale two days ago now...Great polls

Best tip: recognise you're not going to get rich in a day, remember there'll be ,low traffic days (often at first) and rmember it's fun.

Thanks for this information. It was fun taking the polls too.
