Some data about Squidoo lensmasters & what they do

The Squidoo Statistics lens will shed a light on some of the more hidden aspects of Squidoo.
All the data displayed on this lens is unofficial, inaccurate (they are gathered through various methods, but none of them is actually querying the Squidoo database) and sometimes out-of-date ...

Lensmasters: Amount

How many lensmasters are there ?

In 2007 there was a figure going around of 100 000 lensmasters. However, that figure is really outdated, and even worse is it doesn't take activity into account. For all we know, these lensmasters could all be auto created spam bots.

Another number you can gather is 7 400 active lensmasters.
If you go to Google and type "site:http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters" you get all the profile pages that are indexed by Google.
Obviously, this leaves out all the non-indexed profiles, and includes non-active lensmasters that happen to have an indexed profile.

The estimated number by myself is somewhere in between. I have taken a sample of 2000 lensmasters by browsing through the pages and found that I only managed to find 2 lensmasters per level on average. On the higher levels, there are at least 20, but not 30, so I multiplied te value by 15, which resulted in 30 000 active lensmasters (active = having a decent level).

Levels are gained in Squidoo when you receive points for doing things.
The only public data on the levels of lensmasters is the list of your own level, or lower level. Obviously, this leaves out a lot of lensmasters.

Statistics about lenses

How many lenses are there ?

Wikipedia mentions that there are 1.5 million lenses in Squidoo (October 2010). That's a lot of lenses.
It's not sure if this figure includes lenses that have not been published.

A simple way to get an estimate is when you make a lens, but you do not publish it, it gets a ranking of 1.1 million and up. One could assume that there are at most 1.1 million published lenses.
