Melba Marcrum is a hero to young children

While she is my mother, that isn't the reason she is a hero (although that has been a big job). Melba Marcrum has been working and advocating for young children in East Nashville for more than 20 years.
You can't relate to a superhero, to a superman, but you can identify with a real man who in times of crisis draws forth some extraordinary quality from within himself and triumphs but only after a struggle.

Sue Byrnes is the selfless person I know. She has started LAM Foundation to help and inform women about a lung disease that will end their lives unless a cure is found. She has quit her teaching job and devoted all her waking hours to help find a cure. She has gathered researchers, corporations, and doctors to help her. The Foundation has grown in the last ten years from nothing to many people volunteering their time and funds. She has denied herself every comfort, unless she needs something for the Foundation, such as a car. She has run the Foundation out of her house and always has time to support the hundreds of women who are effected by LAM. I am very fortunate for having Sue in my life. You see I am one of the survivors of LAM. I read the updates for people with lung disease on an list-serve Sue has organized. Thus, I learned of lung-transplantation and I am a survivor for the last eight years.
God bless Sue.
