FREE Tips To Help You Squeeze More Mileage Out Of Squidoo

Welcome to this WRITE module! (I'll explain modules in the next module)

As many Squidoo pioneers put it, Squidoo as of now (early 2007) is like the wild wild west. It's FREE for all!

What do I mean?

Oh it works this way...

First, Squidoo is often touted as MySpace for adults. MySpace, as you're probably aware, is the largest social networking site on the planet with more than 130 million accounts.

MySpace is GREAT! But there's one challenge, especially for online marketers and businesses. It does NOT allow business of sorts (read the terms there) and is meant for nearly pure social networking. So, you need to be discreet about discussing business in MySpace.

Squidoo is entirely different in this sense. Here, we talk business openly if we like. We can have affiliate links in our lenses (oops, what's that? more about that later) if we're into affiliate marketing.

Now, what happens is that everyone can build a lens about any topic. A lens is a specific web site comprising of modules as much as a blog is a specific category of web site.

Each lens is identified by a unique web address like this lens:

http://www.squidoo.com/squidoo-tips

The first part [http://www.squidoo.com/] is Squidoo's domain name and you can't change it. However, the second part [squidoo-tips] is given by me when I created this lens and this is how each lens' web address becomes unique.

Now, you understand why the GOLD RUSH. Once a name is taken by someone else, it's gone forever! So you got to go out there and grab what you're passionate about right NOW :-)

Essentially, a lens enables you to put things into a perspective from your angle and no one else's. Isn't that cool?

Just like this lens you're reading right now... I simply want to give an overview Squidoo from the ground up before we discuss some POWER TIPS to optimize our lens. That's my way of doing it. Someone else would probably do it in a totally different way.

Welcome to the 3rd module...

Each Squidoo lens comprises of modules to help you achieve a certain function. Here are a few common modules:

1) A TEXT/WRITE module - this is an example you're reading. It does what the module name says - it allows me to write, up to 2,500 characters.

2) A LINKS module - this allows you add links into your lens without having know one line of HTML (Hypertext Markup Language).

Did you know that you could refer others to Squidoo and make a little money?
