Is It Possible To Have Multiple Top Tier Lenses?

Up till now I've just dabbled in Squidoo and my monthly payouts have been around $25-50. It's a thrill to get more than one lens in the top tier that pays out.

But I wanted to find out if it's possible to consistently maintain more than ten lenses in the Top 2000. I found at least a dozen such elite lensmasters, many of who generously offer tips on how to do so.

Who makes at least $70-$300/month?
Who makes at least $500/month?

Who makes at least $500-$1000/month?

Best Practices of Top Squidoo Lensmasters

Turns out it is possible as proven by over a dozen lensmasters with at least 10 lenses each month in the Top Tier. Leading the pack is Pastiche a.k.a. Lee Hansen with over 30 lenses in the top tier. I invite you to visit the lenses of these top lensmasters and see what you can learn. For me, they continue to be a source of inspiration. If they can do it, I can too.

Niche Content

Pretty much all of these lensmasters excel by focusing on a particular niche then blog about it which helps get their lens indexed on Google, adds a backlink to their lens and can also possibly help generate Google AdSense revenue on their blog as well. See how flowergardener earns at least $500/month from her natural health pet niches, click here.

Blog About Squidoo

Most generously take the time to share their learnings and experiences with Squidoo which also has the added benefit of adding backlinks to their content and additional page views.

Persistence & Stick-to-it-ness

With the exception of Tipi who joined in 2008, all these lensmasters joined Squidoo between 2005 & 2007. This tells me that page views and lensrank come to those lensmasters who persist, learn how to create great content and figure out the most effective ways to promote it. Comment left by top lensmaster Thomas C:

I think you got it right when you mentioned "sticking to it" That is the best tip of all! Just start creating lenses and keep working on them! A lens is never complete in my book! My lenses all get a good dose of freshness! Just keep working on your lenses and keep making new ones to work on as well! After all, you can't have 30 lenses in the top tier if you don't have 30 lenses to begin with!

Dogs & Natural Medicines For Pets

Deb's top lens about Dog Medicine Side Effects has been on the Top 100 for well over a year. Deb earns at least $500 per month on Squidoo. She blogs about her Squidoo experience on Little Debbies World. Comment left by Deb:

It helps immensely to have many lenses with valuable and interesting content in a popular niche. All of my lenses (37) in the 'dog' niche are over 2 years old. I was fortunate when I joined Squidoo, that what I wanted to write about had not been covered, so I just kept building on the niche. I have never not earned at least $500 per month through my lenses, whether it be adsense, module sales, or private affiliate sales.

In 2007 through half of 2008 I averaged 23 lenses in the top tier. Now I average 11, due to the algorythm changes and increase of lensmasters. I've won many awards and recognition through my 3 niches. I think it helps that I've kind of 'tied together' 2 of the niches. Natural medicine for people......and natural medicine for pets.

Got Niche? Get Words!

Choose Keywords With Less Competition

There's a bit of grumbling in the SquidU Forums about the Top Tier lenses being dominated by long time lensmasters and that it's impossible to get lenses into the higher paying stratas. But Erica Stone a.k.a. Sojourn joined in 2009 and proves that by learning the tricks of the trade from other top lensmasters, she's been able to catapult a steady stream of lenses into the top tier.

It's only been recently that I discovered a small but incredibly valuable secret on how to get lenses into the top tier that has made all the difference. Erica shares one of THE critical success factors that most newbies neglect but that can make all the difference.

What Are Your Squidoo Goals?

Know of Anyone Else With 30+ Top Tier Lenses?

Many lensmasters suggest focusing on generating affiliate income with less emphasis on lensrank. This summer, I tried picking a product and building content around it but the lenses were uninteresting, I found the process boring and quit after a week.

So instead, I'm going to focus on developing strong content and write about something I feel passionate about and that's music and all things related to pop culture. The weird thing is by not focusing on affiliate income, one of my newest lenses about the Julie and Julia Soundtrack has already generated some sales of related products.

Wow! 30+ is a lot of lenses to have in the top tier. I had nine lenses in the top tier this holiday season and now just two. Best Wishes with your Squidooing!

A brilliant idea for a lens and I do so agree about the need to be interested in your topic if you;re going to keep it ranking high.

For the record, I've currently got eight top tier lenses and had eleven just recently which I think is the most I've ever had.

I think stick-to-it-ness is very important. Some of my lenses jump out of the gate with traffic, but others have sat for up to a year then suddenly been discovered by Google. I think just regularly tweeking and adding new lenses is a big help. Fabulous lens idea! Love your insight.

What a fantastic lens - Great work! You sure offered some valuable tips and insight that can really benefit other lensmasters.

Sharing is a great way to prosper ;)

There is no "secret" to Squidoo - well, not anything different from the "secret" of getting any web page to do well...lol.

Optimizing the page, using keywords that will give you a better chance to rank and get found in Google and other search engines, and offering unique content about sum up the "secrets" (uh-oh, did I let the cat out of the bag? haha)

    Thanks for sharing this lens!

Adrienne - Thanks for the feature! (I'm blushing!!!) I was fortunate to have had a number of more experienced lensmasters help me along the way - some don't even know how much they helped. It was the time spent analyzing their work - as you do in this lens - that helped a few things click in to place. One of the things I love best about Squidoo is the helpful environment and the willingness with which people share information. It's made all the difference. Very nice lens!

If I can bring in $750 a month (through all freelance sources, not just Squidoo) then I won't need outside income and I can focus on freelance (which is more fun to do). So that's my medium-range goal. I've hit $50 a month, so my next goal is $100/month.

I have to agree that writing about what you are interested in and passionate about is 1000 times easier than picking a topic solely for financial reasons.

I think our culture places financial gain far to high on our list of priorities.

What could possibly be more rewarding than serving our community?

    Hello,
I started in the end of March 2009, I am just starting to build a niche or two. It took a lot of reading to try to understand everything, fortunatly there are many wonderful lenses that provide a wealth of great how to information. The traffic is slowly starting to come, I plan on continuing my efforts slow and steady. The hardest part is finding the time. This is a great lens, gives me hope. The Megan Casey interview is really great, it was so nice to see her and I am truly inspired to go for my vision.

    Thank you for sharing,

    Robin

Because so many niches are already covered here on Squidoo, I think lensmasters have to press themselves to be more and more creative. BUT as creative people we are up to the challenge! I've heard the advice "Give it at least a year" a couple of times, so when I started with Squidoo that was my goal...work at it hard and as much as possible for a year and see where I stand. I love Squidoo and can learn tons and tons from other lensmasters. And the community aspect is the best perk yet!
