American News And Politics On Squidoo

Many Squidoo lensmasters have a keen sense of what is happening in America and in the world of today. Their pages are powerful documents of our reality as a nation and its citizens. American news and politics lenses might never gain the same popularity as a Britney Spears blog or a video depicting exploding coke bottles. Why? It is work to look at these lenses. It is painful to realize the "naked truth". It is hard to listen to that small nagging voice inside of us saying "wake up"! It is often inconvenient to think for ourselves.

The Squidoo authors featured in this lens have embraced this inconvenience - for the sake of our wake-up call, our education, and our betterment as citizens of this great country. Let us be grateful for their work.WorldClassMasterpieceBadge

The Emperor Has No Clothes!

A relevant tale by Danish visionary Hans Christian Andersen

You might know the story of the Emperor who ordered new clothing to be custom-tailored by two newly-arrived weavers. These rascals only pretended to sew and stitch but declared that their garments could only be seen by people with pure minds and hearts. Nobody wanted to admit their failure to see any clothing and praised the invisible goods to the highest degree, until an innocent little child uncovered the prank. The Emperor did not really care...

It might be an unusual request to ask you at this early point of your visit to leave this lens and read something else. But I would like to encourage you to take a few minutes and read these powerful Senate Floor remarks given by US Senator Robert Byrd on October 17, 2003. "The Emperor has no clothes"

We Celebrate History - But Do We Ever Learn From It?

We humans are slow students...

Let's consider this:

We know that historical figures like Jesus, Galileo, Newton, van Gogh, Hans Christian Andersen, Richard Wagner, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Dr. Martin Luther King, Ghandi, and countless others were often ridiculed during their life times.

Many of them were stigmatized with era-appropriate equivalents to "hippie", "tree hugger", "commie", "liberal", "bum", and the worst: "unrealistic".

We know that in their wisdom these great folks were far ahead of the intellectual capabilities of their peers (us! - back then).

When - years later - their ideas were finally understood by the masses (us, again!), great progress for all mankind was achieved.

We know that history repeats itself over and over. Today, in this country alone, nearly half of the "adult" population decries most of our progressive thinkers as "hippies", "tree huggers", "commies", "liberals", "bums", and the worst: "unrealistic".

When are we going to break the cycle of our mental apathy and begin to open our minds to the recognition of our true heroes during their life times?

Saints live among us - all the time!
