Chapter 13 - Creating an index of lens

After creating many lenses, it becomes obvious that managing them is not going to be easy. Squidoo provides a basic dashboard to lensmasters. It always list your entire lens sorted by lensrank. The ranking changes every day. Therefore, from day to day, your lens could appear any which way. When you only have a few lenses, that is not a problem. When you have over 100 lenses, as I do, it is a problem and it is also very slow to load. Performance becomes a big issue. I decided to create an index of my lens grouped by category. Some people call this "lensography". I prefer the terms, directory, index or catalog. My objective is to create a lens that is fast to load and as compact as possible. I know what the lens is about so I don't need to include a description. The title of the lens is all I need. I decided to use the "List module" and just create links of each lens grouped by a particular category. It is too bad that Squidoo does not have a module that can sort alphabetically. That would really come handy. Right now, they appear in the order that I created them. In addition, for my squidbooks, I only list the first lens. The rest can be accessed once I get to the Table of Content. It takes two clicks to get to any lens and 3 clicks to get to a chapter. I think this is a workable solution until Squidoo decides to implement something like it in the future. Let me know your ideas. How best to handle large number of lenses? Take my poll.
