Great lens, clear and concise, showing a lot of common sense.
  • CarlThomp May 20, 2012 @ 11:13 am | delete
    I appreciate you advice
  • evilsaigon May 10, 2012 @ 7:08 am | delete
Very nicely written. I always can't figure out the main differences between these whenever I see so many recommendations about them.
  • dywp515 May 7, 2012 @ 11:43 am | delete
Nice Lens. I have been using HubPages for years and just recently stumbled upon Squidoo. Thanks for breaking down the main differences so I didn't have to spend the time playing around.

You've been a huge help! Thank you!
  • RuralFloridaLiving May 4, 2012 @ 9:51 pm | delete
Very interesting. I've been thinking of trying HubPages but haven't yet done so.
  • glutenallergy Apr 27, 2012 @ 3:37 pm | delete
This is a great breakdown of these two sites. I have an account with both, but didn't know about many features that you have so kindly explained. Thank you!
  • WhiteSockGirl Apr 26, 2012 @ 10:13 am | delete
Sounds fantastic! I have been considering to move from Squidoo, and your lens actually is providing me with a great option. Certainly going to check out HubPages.
  • HelpMarcProject Apr 18, 2012 @ 9:20 pm | delete
You offer a wealth of knowlegde on this lens. Thanks for sharing
  • zafeyry Apr 16, 2012 @ 8:02 pm | delete
It seems cool, but it uses Adsense. I'm under 18 so I can't make an Adsense account, so Squidoo is my sole option. That's not a bad thing though, so far I really like Squidoo!
  • diyomarpandan Apr 13, 2012 @ 10:06 pm | delete
Thanks for posting this, indeed; though initially the only reason I've come to consider Hubpages beside Squidoo, is when Squidoo unpublished an article of mine, saying it had duplicate content or plagiarized — which in all honesty wasn't, and I took offense. Anyway, got to try Hubpages.
  • Revenge700 Apr 7, 2012 @ 3:09 pm | delete
Thank you very much for making a comparison, I will do both, as you have suggested and I now know there's strengths.
  • alspaulding21 Apr 4, 2012 @ 8:55 pm | delete
Wonderful breakdown. As a blogger myself sometimes i want to write about a different topic than what the direction of my blog is in and I was wondering which way to go in regards to hubpages and squidoo. Thank you for helping me make up my mind.
    Squidoo it is.
  • thatgrrl Mar 31, 2012 @ 4:46 pm | delete
This was a great post to read by someone experienced on both sites. I tend to sign up for accounts and then only use one site I especially liked. I end up with accounts all over the place. I just decided to try Squidoo and do something wtih my membership here. I like the look of the site. It's very fresh and vibrant.
  • naheedahsan Mar 29, 2012 @ 12:17 pm | delete
    Very informative lens, thanks.
  • VinceErrichiello Mar 25, 2012 @ 11:14 pm | delete
I actually wrote my first lens on a similar topic. I am a member of both communities, so it is hard to say which one is really better. I agree with you, both have their distinct advantages and disadvantages.
  • Ahdilarum Mar 25, 2012 @ 6:53 am | delete
I think Hubpages suks.. Squidoo is better..
  • UdeyJohnson Mar 24, 2012 @ 1:31 pm | delete
Thank you for this lens. I love it when someone can sort out the trees from the forest. It's kind of a jungle out there sometimes - and a little vantage point clarity really helps. Bravo!

I haven't tried HubPages yet, but I sure do love to Squidoo!
  • jiroo Mar 16, 2012 @ 2:50 am | delete

  • mjtaylor Mar 12, 2012 @ 2:36 pm | delete
Haven't tried them yet ... will have to finish working on my lenses first!
  • glockr Mar 3, 2012 @ 10:40 pm | delete
I've been trying it for about a year but I just can't seem to 'get' how to create decent looking Hubs.
  • rhadoo7 Feb 29, 2012 @ 7:56 am | delete
Great lens! Personally I think that posting articles on HubPages is much easier in terms of formatting. I prepare all my articles in Microsoft Office, and there I can easily use the bold, italic and underline functions or add links. Then I simply copy & paste into the hub. On Squidoo I have to use those stupid , tags which take much longer!
  • allenwebstarme Feb 29, 2012 @ 12:56 am | delete
Fantastic lens, opening new account in HubPages, Thank you so much for sharing such a wonderful comparison information.
  • skitty100 Feb 26, 2012 @ 2:55 pm | delete
Thanks a lot for the info! I think I will get both!
  • surpriseitsme Feb 24, 2012 @ 3:16 pm | delete
Thank you for this important information. I found you through the squidU forum. But, I've been googling "squidoo vs hub pages" for a few weeks and this is by FAR the exact information I was looking for. Thank you again.

I do use Hub Pages, although right now I'm limiting my use of it for a particular series of articles about sustainability. My Squidoo content is mostly travel, some green living writing, and a bunch of miscellaneous lenses that will publish soon. I like Squidoo better, although I haven't made any money yet on either!
  • bluewren56 Jan 31, 2012 @ 3:32 am | delete
Really appreciated what you had to say here. I've learnt so much about HubPages. Thanks.
  • metobi1 Jan 29, 2012 @ 2:25 pm | delete
Lovely lens, loads of information on hubs, I think you were a tiny tinny biased for squidoo with "of it would take for 10% of pageviews to equate to $5 worth of click thrus", but it is understandable. But I love your detailed comparisons. Lens like this make me keep doing research and not being able to write even one lens since dec 29. This is def 1st tier material.
  • N376 Jan 29, 2012 @ 3:36 pm | delete
That's not biased. I go on to say "Long term though HubPages keeps rewarding."

I've made far more money from HubPages referrals than Squidoo.
  • SimplyTonjia Jan 28, 2012 @ 5:56 pm | delete
I just came across hubpages and was wondering about all the stuff you just answered. Great lens. Thank you.
  • CountrySunshine Jan 19, 2012 @ 7:11 pm | delete
I haven't tried HubPages, but had been wondering what it is all about. Not too sure if I will try it, since it doesn't seem to get very good reviews. Thank you for the comparison. It definitely helps!
  • Jan 19, 2012 @ 6:04 pm | delete
I have tried both and I tend to like squidoo alot better than hubpages but both are good websites
  • thrivingmom Jan 14, 2012 @ 6:30 pm | delete
Squidoo gets my vote. My blog got click-spammed back in 2007 and Google blacklisted me from AdSense. :( So, hubpages is almost useless to me.
  • TheLastResort Jan 2, 2012 @ 5:17 am | delete
I tried HubPages but was discourage by all the bureaucracy to be done before publishing...
On another note, check User/Visitor Rating module, I think you switched Squidoo with Hubpages there.
    Cheers!
  • webstatsart Jan 11, 2012 @ 8:06 am | delete
hubpages seems to be a place filled with immature people. They ought to grow up and learn something about being nice. I'd hate to work in that company knowing what goes on from all the blogs I read about hubpages being a scam
  • nightbear Dec 24, 2011 @ 11:11 pm | delete
Great comparison. I like Squidoo best too. Hubpages is okay, I just can't get into the community like I do here.
  • darciefrench Dec 24, 2011 @ 2:34 pm | delete
I may have started something on HubPages - for whatever reasons it didn't hold my attention. I prefer Squidoo :)
  • Pedro_Morales Dec 20, 2011 @ 5:33 am | delete
I like hubpages and have one published hub. This lens you've made is a great resource, thanks.
  • AskPat Dec 12, 2011 @ 5:43 pm | delete

  • bowfishing Dec 9, 2011 @ 6:51 pm | delete
Nice read on all the pro's and con's.I've been looking at trying HubPages recently. Thanks for the info.
  • stalwartcbian Nov 25, 2011 @ 9:47 pm | delete
I came from HubPages, and I loved the community there. I'm new here in Squidoo so I'm having a hard time finding and connecting with the community here. Anyway, this lens helped me locate the Squidoo forum (SquidU.com). Thanks for that.

In HubPages, you need to be really good at SEO to earn good. But I believe this same concept applies here, too.

What I love about Squidoo is that you can choose your threshold payment, $1 to $10. And it pays directly through PayPal.

The drawback with HubPages is that it doesn't allow affiliate links in the content. I found out many successful internet marketers make from $2,000 to $8,000 monthly promoting products from Clickbank alone. So this is something really, really great!

I am just not sure if I can earn a good royalty here if I write good and quality content on various topics. I am a person who loves to write about anything I have come across and thinks about.

This lens does a good job of pointing out the differences between the two platforms I love. Thanks.
  • uktvbrackets Nov 22, 2011 @ 10:07 am | delete
just started using it and I do like the ease of editing and adding new models. I love squidoo tho.
  • carcamping Nov 20, 2011 @ 1:29 am | delete
Very helpful. I use both and don't really have a preference. This pointed out some things about each that I wasn't aware of. Thank you!
  • fionamckay9 Nov 14, 2011 @ 9:14 am | delete
I found that Squidoo was a lot easier to use.
  • bhavesh Nov 6, 2011 @ 12:51 pm | delete
Great comparison! Just wanted to point out that HubPages' quizzes allow much more flexibility than anything I have seen, which is great for the kind of content I write. It's also easier to create and use tables there which are great for certain kinds of articles, such as comparisons and reviews of multiple things, like this lens. :-)
  • PurplePansy Oct 25, 2011 @ 2:09 am | delete
Thank you! You've provided a lot of great information here.
  • kiwisoutback Oct 25, 2011 @ 12:37 am | delete
I was gaining a lot of traction on Hubpages, but Panda smacked my subdomain to about 95% less traffic. I can't say Hubpages isn't worth it, because some of my other subdomains weren't penalized. I've been slowly moving around some of the penalized content, which is a pain.
  • WayneDave Oct 22, 2011 @ 4:46 am | delete
Good reviews. I'm personally on both, but my focus is Squidoo really. I barely write on Hubpages. Thanks for sharing this.
  • Tenzho Oct 14, 2011 @ 10:27 am | delete

  • NorDac Oct 10, 2011 @ 4:21 pm | delete
Nice comparison, I use both but I'm made quite a few more lenses then hubs.
  • BeCanDo Oct 6, 2011 @ 3:25 pm | delete

  • Dkprincess6 Sep 18, 2011 @ 12:19 am | delete
I tried Hubpages, and I wasn't very successful at it. I may go back and give it another shot some day though.
  • cffutah Sep 14, 2011 @ 8:43 am | delete
interesting reading between the 2 types ... I had heard of hubpages too but liked the way squidoo sets up lens a little better. If you ever browse lens, feel free to check mine out, mine are to help educate people on what cystic fibrosis is.
  • bakerwoman Sep 13, 2011 @ 9:58 pm | delete
I think I like to give HubPages shot and see what happens. I am glad I stumbled uon this lens which will help me a lot. Blessed.
  • kitty222 Sep 8, 2011 @ 10:17 pm | delete
Tried Hubpages but never really got into it. I pretty much feel like I'd be doubling my work, writing an article for Squidoo and then completely REwriting it for Hubpages. And if you check out some of my SquidWhos, you'd see where that might be a chore. My kudos to the people who can do both but it's not for me.
  • SheilaVine Aug 15, 2011 @ 4:19 am | delete
i find it hard to work with after squidoo
  • JennySui Aug 12, 2011 @ 6:13 pm | delete

  • world-traveler Aug 2, 2011 @ 5:58 pm | delete
Well for a quick and simple answer take a look at my Hubpages here at http://world-traveler.hubpages.com/hub/-Top-Ten-Google-Adsense-Earning-Websites and my Squido Lenses here at http://www.squidoo.com/tropical-holiday-destinations

Earnings? Over US$2,000 from Hubpages, zero from Squidoo.
  • arunii Aug 1, 2011 @ 8:18 am | delete
I just joined both before 1 month. My experience is good with both sites squidoo and hubpages. It is difficult to vote which one is best among both

  • cbaltt Jul 24, 2011 @ 3:44 pm | delete

  • uncreative Jul 16, 2011 @ 8:43 pm | delete
I think hubpages uses nofollow link attributes now. I think that is definately a negative for me.
  • unimatrix02 Jul 10, 2011 @ 3:07 pm | delete
Thanks, I was just looking at HubPages and wondering what to do with it. Very comprehensive review.
  • Logemon1 Jul 7, 2011 @ 5:24 pm | delete
I just started on Hubpages. I think Squidoo is a lot more fun; however, I think it will be easier to make money on Hubpages.
  • avorodisa Jul 6, 2011 @ 7:32 am | delete
I like Hubpages. You can also participate there by asking and answering questions, thus ebgaging in interesting conversations, and by following your favorite authors. You can send fan emails that show on the favorite author's pages. They also have a reward system, a little different from that of Squidoo, though. They also have contests.

  • achraf May 25, 2011 @ 4:15 pm | delete
    thanks for this clear description.
One question, maybe someone here can answer me: what if I publish all my articles on both squidoo and hubpages? bad or good?
  • N376 May 25, 2011 @ 4:38 pm | delete
Bad idea. And if you do publish it on Squidoo first HubPages will flag it as duplicate content if you try and publish it there.
  • webstudio2ucom May 25, 2011 @ 3:57 am | delete
Do you know something like hubpages and squidoo?
  • GreenCap May 19, 2011 @ 1:19 am | delete
    Nice article.

I've been using hub pages for quite a long time now. Registered for squidoo, but haven't been that much active here.

What i got from this article is: there's no clear winner amongst these two. Can someone help me decide which one is better from SEO perspective. I can surely write some nice articles (Lenses and hubs), with a link back to my own domain.

  • yourgoldenfuture Apr 23, 2011 @ 1:10 pm | delete
this infos is very good written...squidoo also seems to have more modules for sale / donations etc...
what made upset first with hubpages is the TOS - saying : ENGLISH only...my hub got deleted because of not reading the TOS :-(
This is a really big disadvantage...for a German like me...
  • AIM4it Apr 22, 2011 @ 7:48 am | delete

  • KittyBradshaw Mar 26, 2011 @ 11:10 pm | delete
Hello ... I just signed up : ) I was wondering how people handle content that they develop on their own website domain as regards Squidoo and Hubpage. If I publish on my domain and then on Squidoo, from Google's point of view that would be duplicate content. But why would I want to post my original content on Squidoo and not my own site? Thanks for helping me understand this.
  • KittyBradshaw Mar 26, 2011 @ 11:05 pm | delete
What's the thinking on republishing content from one's own website domain on either Squidoo or HubPages? That would be duplicate content from an SEO point of view. Thanks for your insights.
  • garrekds Mar 25, 2011 @ 2:07 pm | delete
This is a good and thorough explanation of both. Cleared up a lot of my questions. I heard about Squidoo from one of Seth Godin's books and signed up. Then I discovered Hubpages and was like, "What am I going to do now? Maybe there's ten of these sites!" I think I'll stick with Squidoo for now. I like Seth and the community is great and I came here first.
  • bloog510 Mar 24, 2011 @ 5:02 pm | delete
Well you definitely gave a good overview of both. I think I'm going to stick to squidoo at least for now.

  • ChristopherInMexico Mar 9, 2011 @ 9:57 am | delete
I love Hubpages and Squidoo. Interestingly enough I get more views and comments at hubpages. I'm not sure why though. I've been writing original articles for both sites on the same topics (totally rewritten articles no spinning) I'll keep writing for both and see how it works out after several months.
  • langdondarren Mar 26, 2011 @ 7:12 pm | delete
Oh yes. I have been watching SEO movements for a while now and connecting your hubpage to your squidoo will boost your pages significantly and get more views to both
  • avelimir Feb 26, 2011 @ 3:37 pm | delete
Nice review for both sites. I agree with the conclusion - both have something special about them.
  • bobskeyboardz Feb 24, 2011 @ 6:09 am | delete

  • tarmiziba Feb 6, 2011 @ 10:37 pm | delete
Somehow I prefer Squidoo's layout to Hubpages'; it's easier on my eyes. Oh, and maybe I'm childish or am easily entertained, but I absolutely love the achievements that pop up in Squidoo. =) That said, however, I actually have an easier time creating/organising content on Hubpages than Squidoo. Thanks for this informative lens. I'm just starting out on both and will try to continue creating content for both.
  • soccerdream27 Feb 6, 2011 @ 4:50 pm | delete
nice article! right now i prefer squidoo to hubpages. payment is via paypal, so i don't have to wait until i get $100 in my adsense account and recieve a check. also i don't have to be signed up for ebay, zazzle, etc. to earn revenue from them
  • kargaa Feb 3, 2011 @ 3:54 pm | delete
Nice Article, but it seems SQUIDOO is more simple and logic than hubpages. Also you could give dofollow links on SQUİDO
  • moneyloveandchange Feb 2, 2011 @ 11:24 pm | delete
Thank you for the information. I currently don't have time for both Hubpages and Squidoo, and the information here helped me to make a more informed decision to stick with Squidoo for awhile.

Thanks for this excellent information. I'm glad I found this lens. I just signed up for Hubpages and am experiencing the all-frustrating learning curve. Ugh. I'm trying to learn what links are allowed and what's not. Also, according to Hubpages, hubbers can no longer get ebay accounts - so what does one do for ebay items? And I see a lot about being over-promotional. I'm not sure exactly what that means but I guess they'll let me know if I am. Thanks!

Great Lens, excellent information clearly broken down without resporting to my mum's better than yours syndrome. I like Squidoo mainly for the monsters and forum for advice
  • classicalgeek Jan 2, 2011 @ 1:35 pm | delete
HubPages has added poll and quiz modules, and tables, too, and keeps constantly updating their site (not that Squidoo doesn't).
Hubpages and Squidoo both have RSS modules, which can lead to more $$$!
Hubpages now has stats that you can use to track traffic.
You can group your hubs, kind of like featured lenses.

You are just so wonderful. I'm new here in Squidoo, I just stumbled into the site and I thought I might try it. I've blogging for three years now but I never used HTLM on my own before. So your lenses on HTML are my bible right now... thank you so much. I've never heard of Hubpages but I'm going to give it a try. Great lens, as usual. Bravo!
  • DaveStone13 Nov 5, 2010 @ 7:27 pm | delete
I've written a lot of hubs. There are two main differences not mentioned here. The first is a severe restriction on affiliate links at hub pages. If you exceed three on any domain, they first threaten and lock you out. Even if you have a longer, more detailed hub, the limits are the same as someone who is just writing short ad copy. The second big deal is in attitude. You kinda get a schoolmarmish thing from Hub pages. If you violate the three link think, you get a stern warning, but only if you happen to got the link on your own. No advance warning for getting locked. And it's not like spam or porn. It's like doing a detailed hub on New York City and wanting link up movies and books and look out! Three's the limit. I find them not author friendly at all and exactly the opposite in attitude from buddy-like Squidoo. I stopped add new content to Hubs because I found them too limiting and abrasive. I still get lots of hits on my 86 hubs, but I never add anything new unless it back links to Squidoo.
  • vernessataylor Nov 21, 2010 @ 12:26 pm | delete
I created a hub account ages ago but I've never added content. Just yesterday I reconsidered whether or not to start adding hubs when I read one with a well-written topic. However, your comment makes me think again. For one thing, with time so short for most authors, it is really disheartening for the platform you choose to share information on to be super-restrictive and "schoolmarmish." Too, a writer wants to write; a blogger wants to write and make money without restrictions on relevant affiliate links. Thanks for sharing your insights.
  • TheSEOmo Dec 13, 2010 @ 1:54 am | delete
I was just considering making a hub but his comment also disheartens me. I don't understand why they wouldn't nurture the creativity of the authors like squidoo.
  • bvanloo Nov 2, 2010 @ 10:15 am | delete
After 2 locked lenses at the same time without warning, you're sure considering to go somewhere else with your content. I suppose Hubpages has his TOS also and they are right, rules give good quality! It's a same that these things happens without warning here at Squidoo, why not being flagged so you can correct. Is'n that the methode Hubpages uses?
    BTW : great lens!

I have an account with both Squidoo and Hubpages. I can no longer be an affiliate with Amazon because I live in NC. So I can not use the Amazon module, ebay turned me down :( It seems that every time I do a "hub" I get flagged for affiliate links, too many links, duplicate content and the list goes on. So for the time being I am focusing on Squidoo.

Squidoo VS Hubpages a question is discussing on both sites from a long time. You can see more lens and many hubs on this same topic. Both platforms are very good to promote their sites, products earning the money from adsense and refferels.

I started with HubPages before coming to Squidoo. I'm brand new here, but I like both of them for mostly the same reasons you have pointed out. I do have to say something, though. Writers on HubPages are more often referred to as "hubbers" rather than "authors". :)

Nice work man. I just read an article on hubpages about making money on Squidoo and then began wondering if I should Hubpages too.

After readig your article it sure sounds ok, however I don't like the idea of having to sign up for accounts with google adsense, amazon. AND eBay just to make a couple of dollars. I much prefer Squidoo (even if your ad payout rate is less) because of the fact that the squidoo team manage it all and all you have to do is focus on wiring good lenses.

Anywayz, thanks for helping me out by clearly showing the pros and cons of both :)

I just may have to check out these Hubpages...I wrote on Helium and never heard of Squidoo until a fellow-Heliumite mentioned it in his bio. Now, I absolutely love Squidoo and spend more time here than at Helium. However, Helium brings more revenue on a monthly basis - even without entering contests and publishing through Marketplace. This could largely be due to the number of articles I have published and the average rank (in percentage) I've achieved. Still...Hubpages do sound interesting...and I'm quite used to referring to myself as an author. At least people know what I'm talking about; when I say I'm a lensmaster at Squidoo, they shake their heads and say, "What?" It gives me an opportunity to introduce them. :)

I started with Squidoo and added Hubpages later on. I'm a fan of both. Some months I earn more from hubpages, other months it's squidoo. I do agree with mackmiller that it's easier to get views quickly at hubpages, but over time, both sites work out pretty well for me.
  • N376 Sep 16, 2009 @ 5:27 pm | in reply to brooklynbaba | delete
HubPages is follow. The nofollow only applies to hubs under 40 Hubscore and 75 Hubberscore. If you have an account of good standing a person can publish a hub that is not nofollow, immediately. If content is duplicate there can be some issues.
  • N376 Sep 16, 2009 @ 5:27 pm | in reply to brooklynbaba | delete

Hub pages has "no follow" link attributes; so from an seo perspective it does not get much link value if you are using it to help with your linking promotion to another site. I'm not talking about spam. I'm talking about writing about a similar topic and linking back to your won hosted blog.

I've been waiting for someone experienced on both to explain the differences. Thank you. i'm also wondering how worth while RedGage is. I've uploaded a few things, but I'm not sure it's smart to upload work that I've published on Squidoo because I think Google frowns on duplicated content. Anyone have any information or thoughts on this?
  • mackmiller Jul 29, 2009 @ 7:49 am | delete
I personally like Hubpages better. I can get views right away at Hubpages and I already make adsense money from my hubs (not a lot, but my blog makes up for the rest--I get an Adsense check every other month). I feel like I have to work really hard to get noticed at Squidoo and not so hard (or at least not AS hard) on Hubpages.

I'll continue to write on both venues, however, right now I'm diggin' Hubpages more:)
  • Kidgas Jul 11, 2009 @ 11:09 pm | delete
I clearly have gotten more traffic at HubPages. I have over 1000 views. Granted some of it is internal (40%), but 20% has come directly from Google. I have gotten less than 15 views here on my 3 lenses in almost 7 weeks. I have also made money on Adsense. Granted only $6 but from what I understand, I won't get anything here at Squidoo unless my lens is in the top 85,000. I will continue to pour my effort into HubPages for the time being since that is where I am seeing the most bang for my buck.

I have to agree with Lenny overall. I love both -- and honestly am not finding that I favor Hubpages over Squidoo or vice versa. They are too different in certain ways, yet so alike in others. Bottom line is that I don't want to put all of my eggs in one basket. I'm learning... Slowly. Darned slow learner stuff!

    Thanks Glen!
  • EverydayMiracles Jun 5, 2009 @ 9:06 am | delete
I get a lot of traffic to some of my hubs, though most of it is internal traffic and therefore significantly less likely to click on ads. One hub alone accounts for the much of my more than 15000 page views (all within two months, mind you!) and while it is my top earner in Adsense, it's still mostly internal traffic.

I'm still experimenting with Squidoo. One thing I like about Squidoo is the ability to use Affiliate Marketing (which of course we can't do with Hubpages). There seem to be more ways to make money here at Squidoo, but a higher profile on Hubpages.

Right now I'm trying to find a balance between the two :)
  • lennyp May 18, 2009 @ 10:52 pm | delete

"I don't get how getting 50% from the sale would make it the same as if you get 100% from the sale (own account) and what does buying something have to do with chances of scoring pageviews?"

Lets say you get 4% commission of a sale. If Squidoo is getting 8% and they're giving you half the commission, it's the equivalent of 4%.

As for 'scoring pageviews'... what I mean is, if you get the sale, it's due to your Amazon ad being displayed in your page view. You get 100% of... the 4%. If however the random pageview falls on HubPages Inc share of the pageviews (they get 4 out of 10), then you get 100% of nothing. It's theirs.

Anytime something is sold on Squidoo, you get half. You only get revenue from a sale through HubPages if the buyer lands on a pageview that's showing your ads.
  • Blueage168 Apr 26, 2009 @ 2:05 am | delete
Affiliate sales has you getting 50% of EVERYTHING, rather then a 6 in 10 chance of scoring the pageview if someone buys something. Also Squidoo moving more product means they're a premium Associate. The commission is double. Therefore you're still getting the same as if you operated your own account.

I don't get how getting 50% from the sale would make it the same as if you get 100% from the sale (own account)
and what does buying something have to do with chances of scoring pageviews?
  • calconcrete Apr 13, 2009 @ 4:19 pm | delete
Very good comparison! You did a lot of research.

Under "Referrals" you state ". . . and the referred person also gets a $5 bonus." Didn't Squidoo discontinue that policy?

  • Teri_B Apr 2, 2009 @ 10:22 pm | delete
I've used both, and wondered if there were different types of topics/communication between 1 and the other....but this helps....no, I wouldn't want to simply re-post but I might be able to create something on the same topic and have a lens and a hubpage. Thanks

yes, i am already a hubber. my personal view is making a hub is very easy, you can say it as user-friendly. but i am still making lenses only because of its templates. lenses are lovely look than the hubs. as you said "there are a lot of differences there are also a lot of similarities". you are 100% correct.

    Hey Glen very well-written lens!
Both are good. However, I have been a member of HubPages longer and just now becoming active here on Squidoo gradually. You've made a good point that you can participate in both to get two chances of exposure, even if it's on the same topic (as long as content is different of course). So hey i'd say go for both!

Final word from me: I do find HubPages farr more strict than Squidoo. And it can get very frustrating ...especially for the newbie. You have to really go the extra mile to try to understand and not violate their Many rules. Squidoo is more relaxed. Here you can pretty much do anything you want; It's the user's platform! But again, with all the pros & cons, both are good if you can make it work for YOU!

Great Comparison and very indepth. I have 9 hubpages, I went with hubs because it is very cut and dried and but I feel very limited in what you can do. As you stated, at hub you are the author. I did a new page, about an expo today and it was pulled down because:
This Hub was designed solely to promote another site or sites, in order to procure a backlink or siphon traffic. It might provide very little information or value and/or excessive linking to one or more domains.

If you would like to make substantial changes to it in order to remove the Overly Promotional flag, please do so and then use the Submit for Publication button. We will review your Hub, and if appropriate, republish it.

Please note that Hubs without substantial improvement will not be republished, and we will be monitoring any changes made to Hubs after republication.

I had a few questions on Hubpages. If you get a second you should look at my team building page and tell me what you think. I can't seem to get much traffic.

Nice page, though with some spelling mistakes. I really think hubpages is worse than squidoo mainly becuase of the system and I have only made about $2.03 on hubpages while I got about $20.08 from squidoo for the same period!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, your info is quite useful. I never even heard of Hubpages before. I might check it out for fun.

I've been doing Squidoo for a while, and am quite good at it, but I do not know anything about Hubpages and don't yet have a Hub account. You answered alot of questions I had about Hubpages. Thanks!

I fell out with hubpages after it froze one of my hubs for excessive back links (i had about 7 or 8 links on the hub). So i just deleted the hub and moved the content someplace else.

    Nice lens Glen,
It's nice to see them compared side by side. Much easier than trying to interpret the terms of service. 5 stars!

I am a member of hubpages, as well as squidoo. I love it! I've had great traffic towards my hubs with little work. Some work, but not much. Once you get used to it, and play with the tools, you can creat very nice hubs.

    Squidoo
Loved the explanation. Would love some feedback from you on my new lens on opt-in email marketing and Internet marketing here

    Thanks for this informative lens.
I think calling the modules "capsules" may be a play on the word "hubcaps"... Maybe??
