Reasons for building your authority site on Squidoo

In another lens I discussed why you should create an authority site. In this lens I want to address the advantages of using the Squidoo platform for your authority site. Squidoo provides some distinct, inherent advantages for your authority site, not the least of these being the supportive Squidoo community and the ethos of collaborative marketing. Squidoo is cost free and is valued highly by Google as a source of focused, up-to-date content. It also provides a nourishing and innovative environment for the growth and development of your authority site.

Build Your Authority Site on Squidoo

Squidoo Benefits (1): free hosting for your authority site

Not only does it cost you nothing to host as many sites as you want on Squidoo, but you can actually earn income from the Squidoo site itself - Squidoo offers revenue sharing. An authority site is more likely to attract traffic, a high lens rank and increased earnings.

A fringe benefit is that there is a heap of internet real estate on Squidoo. There are about 1.2 Million Squidoo lenses compared to the many millions of .com websites. How much easier will it be to find your desired domain name on Squidoo?

Squidoo Benefits (2): your authority site will be deep indexed by Google

Squidoo lenses are treated as a single web page (even if they have 40 modules). I have found from experience with Squidoo (and the detailed stats provided on Squidoo lenses) that Google automatically indexes the Squidoo lens description, tags, module headings and content, Technorati tags, videos, images and hyperlinks.

The Squidoo site also facilitates internal linking through functions such as table of contents modules, lensroll, module links, and the "featured lenses module". These are easily accessible.

Squidoo Benefits (3): widgets and modules accessible by point-and-click technology

Squidoo has a growing range of widgets such as the Twitter widget that allows you to display the feed from your Twitter posts. It has also evolved numerous purpose-built modules to enable you to display a guestbook, photos and images, stick-it notes, YouTube videos, Flickr photos, link lists, voting lists or text/write comments

Any module or widget can be added with a simple, quick, point-and-click technology. You don't need to source these plug-ins or upload them to a website - they are accessible right on the Squidoo site.

Squidoo Benefits (4): authority sites on Squidoo can be updated in minutes

You can add new tags, a module, a photo, a video, some comments on a previous entry, a featured lens or a new link, all with a simple click. You can also add hyperlinks and linked images and banners. A really cool feature is the ability to highlight a desired action with the black box module (white text on a solid black background) and include a hyperlink.

Squidoo is continuously researching new modules and applications and making them available after testing. You get to use these innovations for your authority site.

Squidoo Benefits (5): authority sites on Squidoo can be easily reoriented

If there is a major shift in your market you can easily re-orientate your authority site on Squidoo and/or develop another site linked to the former. The relatively low development time, together with the point-and-click technology, makes it possible to anticipate or follow market shifts. Squidoo makes you "fleet of foot".

One of the real strengths of the Squidoo platform is its flexibility...an important feature for keeping your authority site up-to-date.

Ron this is an excellent concept. I was thinking about an Authority Site being a WorldPress blog on my domain, or a Membership site, but you are right, a Squidoo well crafted lens can be a perfect authority site especially as we can use the rest of Social Media sites as satellites to drive traffic to it.
I didn't call mine Authority Site, I simply referred to it as a "Main Site", and I use Squidoo as satellite site among others to drive traffic. I'll stay for a while with WorldPress blog on my domain as my Main Site, but I'll experiment with an squidoo-lens as well..
You name Authority Site is better. I like the concept and I believe in it.
Thanks for shearing a powerful concept.
    Regards
