JOB DESCRIPTION: Software Developer/Features
This is a full-time position. Telecommuting is possible, see below.
WHO YOU ARE
(which is even more important than what you know)
We want someone who is passionate about the work, about pushing the envelope, about not just the code that gets written, but the way it's done. The process matters to you, we hope.
This is a very special little company. We are each extraordinarily self-directed and self-motivated. Nobody actually has a direct boss, really. On the other hand, we work extremely well as a team and cede authority to each other with regularity.
We pride ourselves on alacrity, on doing things quickly and well, but not better than the mission requires.
What would you do if the people you work with got out of your way? That's what we can offer.
Would Dilbert like it here?
Dilbert defines his day by playing off the pointy-haired boss. Alas, we don't have a pointy-haired boss. Our founder is bald, first off, but even with that, it's about doing great code, not scoring points.
What You KNOW
PHP 5
JavaScript/Ajax
MySQL
XHTML and CSS
OOP
Significant experience with:
Linux
Subversion or CVS
Prototype and Scriptaculous JavaScript libraries
REST and SOAP APIs
Big pluses for experience with:
Large scale, high volume, high availability applications
C, Java, Python, or Ruby
Memcache
And it would be great if you could build Facebook apps and were pretty good at Scrabble.
Optimism = realism
We believe this is just the first chapter of the Web. Our challenge is to make amazing tools and let people put them to work.

The bounty and other details
We'd prefer someone who was within an easy drive of our offices ten miles north of New York City. However, if you want to telecommute, the deal is:
--you need to be in our office 20 days during the first three months.
--after that, you can show up three days a month.
--travel is your expense. We'll pay for a cheap hotel room, though.
Pay is negotiable, based on individual circumstances, etc.
