A collection of my Squidoo tutorials, rants and other helpful writings
I tend to write a lot on my blog as well - partly because it takes less effort, more often because I start writing and I don't always realise that I'm going to end up with an entire lens worth of content! Sometimes I think it's been covered well enough already by other lenses, so there's no point adding yet another one to the mix.
They are not consistent - some are extremely basic while others address affiliate marketing, opinion and SEO. I cannot guarantee that I am always right, only that I think I am! I welcome comments and questions, and I hope something here will be useful to you.

- The Flying Cat Blog: Coping with the Page Break Changes on Squidoo
- Tuesday, 24 May 2011
f you haven't noticed, Squidoo is getting rid of the Page Break module. They announced this on the new (and very nice, but hard to find if you didn't know about it) site.
Apparently Non-Giants were never meant to be able to use it and the fact that they HAVE for the last year escaped official notice. Everyone who is NOT a Giant has already lost their Page Breaks.
Your first decision: Do you split your page break lenses, or try and keep them on one page? Which do you work on first? And should you publish the changes before you lose the page break (Giants)? - The Flying Cat Blog: My Squidoo Earnings and Number of Lenses Over Time
- Saturday, 16 April 2011
When you first started Squidooing, you generally make very little money, and until you have around 20 lenses, you're unlikely to see any kind of steady payout. At least, a steadily worthwhile one!
So it can be dispiriting, and when there's no money coming in, it's hard to sit back and wait a few months for a lens to grow up.
There's also the quality vs. quantity issue - should you pour all your efforts into a set number a week? Dedicate time to a single lens? How many lenses should you make per month? Per year? - Monsters and Points: Squidoo Just Got Fun
- Thursday, 9 September 2010
Finally today (well, yesterday now - my internet crashed halfway through this post and I gave up and went to bed) the new Squidoo points system arrived. I've had the joy of being a beta tester for the last couple of weeks and was amused to see the predicted outbreak in the forums. Luckily most people enjoy them. Sadly, the huge rush of people playing around (I woke up to over a dozen lovely comments where I usually might get one) seems to have broken it for now, and no points are being (apparently) recorded. So I tore myself away and came to write about my new toy instead. - How To Track Sales In Squidoo: I'm seeing points but no royalties!

If you sell something through one of the Squidoo sales modules, you earn a commission. The new points system now notifies you when you make a sale. - Sunday, 2 January 2011
There are two different ways of earning money from Amazon sales on Squidoo - the Squidoo modules, and your own associate links. But which is better? I know I was wondering a lot before I jumped in - didn't want to expend effort and time on something that didn't convert, and diverted attention from the links I was making sales from. - Grow New Baby Lenses With Page Breaks (Greenhousing)

Greenhousing: Use the Page Breaks to grow lenses up until they are big enough to split off!
This is probably my favourite use for the page break module. I've often ended up writing really long lenses, which then grow some more over time - and naturally I now add page breaks. - Which is the best Squidoo earning module? From Amazon to iTunes!

- Monday, 14 March 2011
Frequently a great deal of internal fuss, discussion and worry arises over so-called 'sales lenses' on Squidoo. To distinguish different lenses, the other kind is the 'content lens' by default. I have finally tired of this endless debate and am writing up my thoughts on the matter. (So let this be the end of it! ENOUGH already!) - The Official Squidoo Blog: Interview with Flynn_the_Cat
- A Squidoo Blog interview!
We asked who you think is a successful Squid and you gave us dozens of names of lensmasters you look up to. It's no surprise that over the last five years, hundreds of lensmasters have gone from simple lenscrafter to resident expert, mentor, and friend.
Are these famous Squids willing to share their secrets of success? Are they willing to tell us how they do all it is that they do? You bet, and today's interview is with Flynn_the_Cat.
Should I Turn My Blog Posts Into Lenses?
Sometimes a Squidoo lens is easier to read, other times, it's better as an article.
As you can see, I've got a lot more blog posts than Squidoo lenses - and I could turn some of them into lenses easily. Which means that I might get some ad money (although probably not much, as they're only for Squidoo'ers, really) and more people will find them. However, I'll have to do a fairly major rewrite or delete my existing posts to keep the content original, and they add value to my blog.
Should I turn them into lenses?

Yes, definitely!
jpratama says:
It can be additional source of traffics and back-links. Even I'm thinking the other way around because my blog is still in very few posts.
kinworm says:
I am in the process of transferring some of my blog posts over to my Squidoo because Squidoo is so great and easy for adding multimedia which would be harder on my blog. Note that I am re-writing everything so that the content on Squidoo is different - actually better I feel than my blog. I see it as enhanced content. But it's hard work re-writing so not an easy option!
Nah.
myfairladyah says:
I'd say leave them as they are
create new lenses for the earnings jar
BrassFittings says:
2 ranking sites would seem better than one.
Othercat says:
I think as long as you have them linked to your tutorials, just leave them as blog posts. But I'm only saying that because personally, I'm too lazy to even contemplate all that rewriting!
