Squidoo Marketing Strategies Made the Top 100 Today 

Well, it's 8 August 2007, and today Squidoo Marketing Strategies made the Top 100 lenses (no. 95) for the first time. It was also ranked no. 15 in the "How-To and Education" category.

The lens has been hovering in the top 150 for a few weeks and I have been exploring strategies to move the ranking up higher.

Here's some strategies I have used:

1. Posting daily to my lens (my ranking drops when I do not post on a particular day).

2. Promoting my lens beyond Squidoo (increasing the traffic to my lens).

3. Adding original content modules that are not just links (a key strategy).

4. Encouraging others to add comments to my lens by adding nourishing comments to their lenses.

P.S. I also think that it helps to be contributing something to Squidoo Charity (however small).

I recently bought Kelly's Squidoo Queen and found it a perfect complement to my own e-book on Squidoo Marketing Strategies.

Squidoo Traffic Power Review 

I have just read and reviewed Squidoo Traffic Power.

I think the sub-title says a lot - "Fast track for serious targeted traffic to your website, blog, online storefront or auctions".

This e-book by Rena Klingenberg is written from the perspective of using Squidoo as a traffic funnel for your website or blog. It is particularly useful if you want to create Squidoo lenses to drive traffic to an online storefront.

Squidoo Traffic Power is an excellent resource. It is very well written - clear, crisp and focused. It's value is enhanced by the jewellery lens examples that Rena provides.

The e-book is a practical, step-by-step guide to setting up lenses that will act as traffic funnels for your sales site.

Rena shares a lot of practical insights including a very helpful list of topics that you could use to build your traffic funnel lenses.

The Squidoo Slap 

There has been a lot spoken about the "Squidoo Slap" - so here is some background and an update



Squidoo seemed to lose favour with Google some weeks ago when spammers attacked the Squidoo site and negatively impacted the quality of Google searches. Many people reported that their Squidoo lenses lost their high ranking in Google search results. This Squidoo Marketing Strategies lens itself dropped from No 1 position to somewhere on Page 3 of the Google results for its core keyword.

There has been a lot of uninformed comment on this issue with doomsayers (and competitors) suggesting that this will have a major negative impact on Squidoo's long -term standing.

Definition

For starters, here's a definition from Webopedia.com:
Short for Rich Site Summary, an XML format for syndicating Web content. A Web site that wants to allow other sites to publish some of its content
creates an RSS document and registers the document with an RSS publisher. A user that can read RSS-distributed content can use the content on a
different site. Syndicated content includes such data as news feeds, events listings, news stories, headlines, project updates, excerpts from discussion
forums etc.

The URL for the feed for your Squidoo lens will look like this:

You can just replace "squidoomarketingstrategies" with the name of your Squidoo lens.

Ultimately it is about sharing who you are, how you see yourself, your values and what you see as important.

Each lens is like the side of a prism - one small window on who you are. As we are all unique, we are each unfathomable.

We are, as Seth suggests, an expert - no one else has lived our life, seen what we have seen, interpreted what we have interpreted or experienced the highs and lows that make us who we are.

Squidoo Marketing Strategies: Regular Updating is the Trick 

You should try to update your Squidoo lens as often as possible, ideally daily.

One strategy to help you with this is to create a links module and add about three links relevant to your focus and publish your lens.

Then each day, or alternate day, add another link and publish your lens.

This will help your lens rank. If you ping the directories after each change, then this will also contribute to your search engine rankings.

I can vouch for the impact of regular updating on lensrank - I have seen two lenses drop in lensrank overnight when I have not maintained my daily updating routine.

However, regular updating without traffic strategies will not maintain your lensrank. You also need to promote your Squidoo lens.

Viral Traffic for Your Squidoo Lens 

The volume of traffic to your lens affects your Lensrank. Over the past few weeks, I have been exploring a viral traffic strategy that is working for me.

Here's the system for creating viral traffic for your lens:

1. Join the Free VLT Program:
Viral Link Tracker

2. Create ads on the Viral Link Tracker (VLT) program to promote your Squidoo lens

3. Create viral links that will automatically generate 3 adblocks whenever your site is displayed. Click the link below to see an example of a viral link I have created for one of my lenses:

4. Promote your viral links created above.

How it works

1. you gain ad credits whenever the adblock on your
viral link is clicked

2. you also earn ad credits whenever the adblock of one of your referrals is clicked

3. your ads are shown on websites across the Internet in the ad blocks of other members

4. your viral links automatically promote your VLT affiliate link so you can refer more people and get more credit.

One way to increase the benefit of this viral process is to include an email subscription link on your Squidoo lens (ideally above the fold of page 1). There are numerous things you can write about in your Squidoo modules.

Here are some suggestions:

* write a review of a program, service or product

* identify the tools people need to do a task

* compare two or more products/services

* provide a definition of a topic/term (draw on Wikipedia)

* discuss the history of your lens or a topic in your lens

* make a comment on a current event and link it to your lens topic

* create a list of the different ways that your product can be used

* discuss a podcast you have created on the topic of your lens

* share a digital story with your readers.

* develop a Q&A module on your topic/product or service.

* add a hint of the day/week module

* write about key people associated with your lens theme
