The Squidoopedia

In this lens we will be adding, and encouraging others to add examples of  Squidoo-centric jargon as it evolves. Referenced sources from the Squidu forum are most appreciated and given extra weight.

Slangoo 

Jargon, or slang, is an evolution of language that happens within a community be it technical, professional, creative or in some aspects social.

In an online community it can happen very quickly. While sometimes it may be forced or manipulated at other times it is gradual. The word or term that sticks is usually the most descriptive and appropriate.

Abbreviations and anagrams can also be adopted into the vernacular.

No matter how forced or contrived it's usually the terms which are most organic that survive.

Squidoo Terms 

In alphabetical order

  • Lensmaster: Like a Webmaster, but s/he makes Lenses and not whole websites.

  • Lensography: A lens that displays a collection of your lenses. But you sort them by category. Unlike the Lensmasters Page. The Featured Lenses module works well for making a lensography a quick page to build.

  • Lensrank: The numbering system which is important or totally irrelevant depending on whether or not the Lensmaster is in the Top 100 ranked lenses. Source

  • Lensrolling: Lensroll is like a Blogroll, you link to other Lenses which appear in your right side menu navigation. It may be done as a favour, a gesture of friendship or that the other lens has information that is complementary to yours. Source

  • Lensrolling Daisy-chain: Not reciprocal, but sequential linking. Source

  • Module: A lens building block. Source

  • Payrank: A scale is based on a lensmaster's average LensRank and traffic. Source

  • Reserve Hopper: If you had earnings from previous pay periods that didn't reach your Cash Payout Threshold, they're carried over and stored in the Reserve Hopper until they do. Your Reserve Hopper is not live, it's updated monthly with any carryovers from the previous payperiod.

  • Squidoo: If you don't know what this is then I don't know how the heck you got here.

  • Squid pro quo: also known as "reciprocal star voting" and "you pat my back and I'll pat yours". Has no long lasting effects.
