Squidoo is cool!

This is my lens about why I love squidoo and whether you're experienced or new- you can love it, too!

If you're new to squidoo, then consider this an inspiration to really get into this brilliant web 2.0 medium. If you're a squidoo veteran, you'll most likely agree with what I'm about to share with you- I'd like to hear if you, and if you don't!

Squidoo is what you make it- so make it good!

Squidoo is easy!

An easy website/blog is fun and great for promotion!

When I was at school there was one computer for the whole school- it probably was a very early BBC computer using DOS and an early version of Basic. In other words- you needed to be have some programming or techie skills to use it.

Fast forward more years than I care to remember and many people have at least one PC at home with a nice, easy to use interface so that non techies like me can understand how to use them without screaming (most of the time)!

The great thing about squidoo is that it's so very user friendly- no HTML knowledge is required though it can be used, in fact, there's some great lenses on squidoo about using it to make great lenses!

Little steps

The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step

I love the fact that I can build my lenses at my own pace- I can add to it bit by bit before publishing it and I can add or edit an existing lens very easily.

If I'm very busy I can simply work on a lens for ten minutes and then add to it later- it's like saving your pennies in a jar- over time, you find you have built up a large jar of money. Similarly, adding and editing a lens (or several lenses) a little at a time over many weeks results in a great stash of a lens!

Squidoo community

Many tentacles make light work!

Squidoo feels like a community, split into sub-communities with the same interests. I love the fact that if you need to know something about squidoo or a subject on squidoo, someone will help you.

The forums and "squid u" and experienced squidooers will help you out when you need technical help or explain something to non-techies like me.

I love the fact that there are groups, that you can start and moderate groups and that we can share our ideas, knowledge and imagination.

Squidoo wisdom

I love that within the squidoo community I can find most of the information I need to make better lenses!

If I want to add pictures within a text module, somewhere on squidoo someone will explain it. If I want to learn basic HTML I can find the information here too. Due to the nature of squidoo, knowledge will be in bite sized chunks with no fluff.

There are lots of very helpful fellow squidooers out there who are willing to give you the benefit of their experience- it's a nice gesture to rate one of their best lenses 5 stars, in return!

Promotion

Squidoo sells!

I love the fact that having a squidoo lens that links to my website means that my website is in the top three listings on Google! I can make each squidoo lens a mini website in itself or as a landing page to grab attention and get people to visit my websites.

It's great that I can link youtube videos, flicker photos and Ebay listing to my lens. I can also use it to promote book sales via my Amazon links.

Squidoo style

Squidoo looks good- it's clean yet funky and flexible enough to make my own. I don't have to be a great web designer (or learn java or CSS) in order to have a lens that looks good.

The modular system for building a lens means I can add and tweak the look of a lens really easily.

Do you squidoo?

Yes, you!

Squidoo addiction

Help me nurse!

I find squidoo quite addictive, not only can I make a lens look good but I can make one quickly and the lack of time lag between idea and project completion means rapid gratification!

Not only is it gratifying, but, as I gain experience making lenses they get easier to make and can be cross promoted to increase traffic and lens rank- fantastic!

It's FREE!

Yet valuable.

It costs nothing to set up a squidoo lens or a thousands squidoo lenses- you can use it as a mini website with free hosting!

Naturally Squidoo has to make some money in order to cover costs and it does so with discrete advertising that doesn't spoil the look or focus of my lenses.

Squidoo is the epitome of web 2.0 and is has modules to link to other web 2.0 hosts such as youtube, all for free.

Income

Multiple streams of income, too!

I love the fact Squidoo gives me a share in the profits from advertising and the more popular my lenses are, the more income I can get from them. Not only that, but, more lenses can mean more income!

Of course, the ability to earn money from lenses doesn't end there- you can link to anything you're selling on Ebay, you can link to your affiliate link on Amazon. You can even link to affiliate sales of related information products using the lens are a landing page.

My ..... lens have links on it to my affiliate codes on cashback websites where I get a small payment when someone joins using my link and collects enough points. I also include links where I make no profit because I want to keep my lens useful as a resource so people will revisit it.

Charity

Set your gifts on autopilot!

Squidoo donates a percentage of its profits to charity and lets me donate a percentage or all of my income from advertisers to the charity of my choice. If you have a charity you support then your lens or lenses can raise the profile and send streams of income to the charity- everybody wins!

Naturally, you can also make a lens about a charity you wish to publicize or to raise awareness or promote a sponsored event.

What does wikipedia say about Squidoo?

You have created a good lens! Be sure that all your module, like the guestbook, have custom titles -- not default ones. Plus check the photos that are showing for 'squidoo' in the flickr module -- you might want to hand pick some. Last, add a few more relevant tags! Good luck with Squidoo.
