Wow, I wish I'd discovered the joys of Squidoo earlier, but guess my couple of years at eHow served as preparation for article writing and learning SEO. I've learned so much more since coming to Squidoo.

I can't believe what they looked like in 2005.

    I enjoyed this look back.

As usual, a wonderful lens. I had forgotten how Squidoo used to look. I have tried blogging and hubbing, but I still find the format at Squidoo the easiest to use. It also lets me "focus" on different areas that I find interesting. This historical piece that you have written makes me remember why hand how I am here. I might not be in the top 100 lensmasters, but I am still here.

It is really interesting to see how Squidoo developed. I was an early contributor on Ehow--but I wish I had known about Squidoo then!

very interesting infos on the back-times

An exceptional lens! How in the world did you pull together all that info? (And it looks like the beginning of a good book!)

It's just such a great environment for experimenting

A fascinating take on the history of Squidoo and a Happy Birthday to you too :)

There was one sentence in the FAQ when I initially signed up for Squidoo (with a different username in May of 2006) that meant a lot to me. In fact, I think it was the line that made me go ahead and sign up. It said, "Every quarter, we'll publish all our numbers so you can see exactly how much money was distributed to lensmasters and to charity." That gave me a lot of confidence. It also never happened.
  • Greekgeek Apr 6, 2011 @ 9:46 pm | delete
Oh, that would be so inspiring if they did that!

Although perhaps not for everyone. I think at first, there was not all that much money earned.

I feel like a real newbie! So much happened before I arrived. Thanks for the history lesson.

Very interesting lens. I enjoyed reading about the early years before I started squiddoodling.

Thanks for the step back in the past; I love it! And do remember the first days of Squidoo. I even joined... or thought I joined, and then, in February of 2007, while I wanted to log into my account, realized that I never confirmed my application or forgot to hit the button enter... Then, I re-signed up and never left!

Pretty neat to see what Squidoo looked like in the old days. Looks like it went through some cosmetic changes and a bit of refinement but the basic idea is still there. Which is what makes Squidoo fun. As long as Squidoo stays true to what makes it unique, I'll probably always be here. :)

Thanks, that was a great look back at yesteryear in Squidland!

Thank you for the Squidoo history lesson. =)

Thanks for this educational look at Squidoo's history.

This is my favorite lens to date. It's been a long time since I was this blown away by a single lens. Squidoo's beginnings will sure make you think about what you're doing with your lenses an why you're here.
  • makingamark Apr 6, 2011 @ 2:47 pm | delete
What a great lens. It's good to look back and get back to first principles at times.

I also loved looking at those early designs - I'd forgotten how clean looking they were. Thank you for creating this - I know from experience it can't have been a quick one to create!

This is a fascinating look at the history of Squidoo! I noticed in Seth's blog talking about the Google slap that he also mentions your Ancient Greece Odyssey lens. There's certainly history there too (on many levels!).
  • kiwisoutback Apr 6, 2011 @ 2:18 pm | delete
Thanks for including all of the waybackmachine links. I remember when the homepage was like that for a while. Squidoo has come far!
  • mountaincabinmercantile Apr 6, 2011 @ 2:18 pm | delete
This is such an amazing lens, Greekgeek. I cannot even comprehend the amount of work and thought you put into it. Your work here gives Squidoo a face and a name as well as a history. It personalizes it more and leaves me with good feelings. Thanks for that.
  • divacratus Apr 6, 2011 @ 2:15 pm | delete
When I joined 2 years back, tier 1 lenses were worth around $10, but now it's $20! In a matter of 2 years, Squidoo has changed so much in terms of looks, earnings and lens creation. I'm so glad I found Squidoo!
  • MissMerFaery Apr 6, 2011 @ 2:09 pm | delete
Thank you SO much or putting this together! Having only been here since early 2009 it was utterly fascinating to go back in time and see the history of Squidoo. Wonderful! Blessed.
  • Jodi_k Apr 6, 2011 @ 2:08 pm | delete
Wow, it looks sooo very different. Also interesting how the top topics have shifted.
