HERE'S WHAT I THINK
SQUIDOO STATS -- PUBLIC or PRIVATE ? HELLO, CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW???
There's been a bit of difference and a bit of debate happening lately on the forum(s) about whether or not Squidoo Stats should be public or private. Lots of wonderful techie coding has made it possible for us lensmasters to view statistics on our lenses in order to fine tune them and to better understand where the traffic is coming from. However, at the same time that we can see OUR data, so can ANYONE else. IMHO, I think these stats should be viewable for the lensmaster's lenses to the lensmaster only.
P.S. Thanks to all of you wonderful friends and visitors who took time to participate in this debate and xoxoxo to those who left 5 stars. Oh, I hope some of you lensmasters weren't afraid to voice your opinions one way or the other!
Personally, I love website stats!
Ssh! But, keep my info PRIVATE!
BTW, what are we talking about?

I'm split on this. Knowing the stats is helpful but I think it's best to keep the info private.

Absolutely it should be private. I have very few lenses (so far) but I feel quite protective of any info regarding them. I know I'm not doing everything right. I am learning a little at a time and I do not want to be critiqued by just anyone...I'm quite sure I'll look like a dummy to someone much savvier "Squidoo-wise" than l'il ole me.

Like GypsyOwl, I had no idea this was public! You mean I can look at anybody's dashboard? and all of you can see how much my paycheck was yesterday? That is kinda spooky to me.

"...the same time that we can see OUR data, so can ANYONE else..." I Did NOT know this. But,I see that I am using the resources that you recommend.. so I'm OK Right?

After doing keyword research for my lens, I don't really want to give that away to anyone who views the lens.

I don't mind a bit of stats publicly - but I want most stats to stay private.

As long as there is no personal information exposed that could be misused (eg. real name, date of birth) and lead to id theft then I don't see why it couldn't be made public.
Having said that I think the lensmaster should have a choice and each lens should have it's stats set to private by default.

I'm not crazy about having these stats public. No need to make it easy for people to find and abuse this information.

I agree private, but I know what the reasoning is. If they are private then only the slick ones will have access to the information, not everybody. They're trying to help the average non-techie lensmaster have access to the same information that others get with more work. The real problem isn't the info, its how people use/abuse it.

C'mon all you fellow lensmasters and Squidsters out there ... now is not the time to be shy about expressing your opinions! FYI--don't worry, this lens is NOT in the HMB contest! so it's safe to register your thoughts one way or the other!!!

I think the stats should be private, but they could make an option to make your stats public if you really wanted to do that.
