Getting Your Lense Noticed In Search By The Use Of Tagging
I was trying to figure out how to locate the highest value tags the other day and noticed there was really not an easy way to find out the best ones on Squidoo. What do I mean by this? Well, certain words are better than others and make it easier during a search to locate what you want. Higher value tags will appear larger when doing this search. Apparently, this had been a home page link at one point and then was put onto another page. Why did I want to do this you might ask?
Tagging along with the title seems to be a really important way to increase your search strength within Squidoo. This is commonly known as search engine optimization. These are not the only things that help search engine optimization, but they do help a lot.
In Squidoo, you are going to have to choose a primary tag and then you will also have the option of using what are labeled other tags. The primary tag should be close to your lense title. What is funny is that when I check the "health" of my lense, I still notice that even if I use a lot of the words in the title and put them in the primary tag, that it still might show up as "needs work"

So What is a Tag?
A tag is a keyword (also known as metadata) that describes some sort of information. It can be used with any media; text, audio and video. The tags are created by the individuals who created the media or those that have viewed it. On a website where many individuals contribute to the tagging, the collection would be known as folksonomy.
The tag is used to help organize and manage your data. Instead of placing a lense in a folder you tag it and then people that search using those tags and effectively have a better chance of finding it.

Identify The Best Tags To Improve Your Search Results
Once you have reviewed the tags, identify the best ones and use either a word or short phrase. I like to try and use what I think will be the minimum number of keywords that will also get me the most specific hit in search that matches what I am looking for. Now, go back and look at your title and see if there might be a tweak or two that can be done to improve that even further. I do not know the search criteria used by Squidoo, but generally there should probably be a higher weight to the tag and still some weight to the title itself.
If you use all the ones that are offered in the lense, click on add more tags to create another box.
These tags will become meta tags for your page and will also picked up by the search engines.
