Background
AltaVista, which means "a view from above," was inspired by the creation of big ideas from a team of experts with a fascination for keeping track of information. During the spring of 1995, scientists at Digital Equipment Corporation's Research lab in Palo Alto, CA, devised a way to store every word of every HTML page on the Internet in a fast, searchable index. This led to AltaVista's development of the first searchable, full-text database on the World Wide Web.

At this time English webpage text can be translated into Chinese-Simple, Chinese-Traditional, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.
The Babel Fish translation service can also be used to translate Chinese-Simple to English, Chinese-Traditional to English, Dutch to English, Dutch to English, French to Dutch, French to English, French to German, French to Greek, French to Italian, French to Portuguese, French to Spanish, German to English, German to French, Greek to English, Greek to French, Italian to English, Italian to French, Japanese to English, Korean to English, Portuguese to English, Portuguese to French, Russian to English, Spanish to English, and Spanish to French.
Finally, anybody can use Babel Fish to translate text from virtually any document simply by pasting the text into the Babel Fish form, and it is possible to add Babel Fish to any website.
How To Add Babel Fish Translation For Your Squidoo Lens
Step One:
Go to your Squidoo Lens and Copy <ctrl-c> the Squidoo Lens link to your clipboard.
Step Two:
Go to the Babel Fish link as follow:
http://babelfish.altavista.com/
Step Three:
Paste <ctrl-v> your Squidoo Lens link to the "Translate a Web page" section of the Babel Fish form.
Step Four:
Select a translation language for your Squidoo Lens and press the "Translate" button. The Babel Fish translation engine will process your webpage and return the result in your browser.
Step Five:
Note the link (URL) for your translated Squidoo Lens in the link window of your browser and Copy <ctrl-c> the link to your clipboard.
Step Six:
Paste <ctrl-v> the translation link to any text editor. Note that you may also want to note the language (i.e., English to French) above the saved link.
Step Seven:

Step Two:
Create a new "Text/Write Module" following the last "Text/Write Module" found in your Squidoo Lens.

Open the newly created "Text/Write Module" for editing, and insert your Squidoo Lens translation link using the code below and replacing the placeholders with your Squidoo Lens translation link information.

If you plan to insert translations for more than one language, you should use brackets ([ and ]) to separate each language (i.e., [Dutch][French]). Insert each link one after the other. The resulting text should look like the following:
