Fall Out Boy (FOB) is an American band from Chicago 'burb Wilmette, Illinois, formed in 2001. The band consists of Patrick Stump on lead vocals, rhythm guitar and primary composition; Pete Wentz on bass guitar, backup vocals, and primary lyrics; Joe Trohman on lead guitar; and Andy Hurley on drums. There are some who try to brand FOB as an emo band, but the band itself neither accepts nor rejects the label, stating distaste for labels but seeing them as a part of producing music. As to the long titles of FOB songs, the band has stated that they are lyrical and not an attempt to be more emo. FOB has also stated that it is punk or pop, but not pop punk.
The band's rejection of labels and need to be true to themselves is part of a philosophy holds pleasing everyone will lead to mediocrity. "The more you try to please everybody, the less you end up pleasing anybody," Patrick Vaughn Stump stated on the band's official website.
