silversun pickups (sspu) is an indie rock band from LA with a style that the band's bio describes accurately as "searingly sumptuous." The band is created from Brian Aubert on vocals and guitar; Nikki Monninger on vocals and bass; Christopher Guanlao on drums; and Joe Lester on keyboards. The current lineup of sspu crystalized in 2003.
The band has proved its business prowess in 2007 by offering a live album, and exclusive iTunes live album, and a remix EP, capitalizing on both Internet sales and sales to hard-core fans.
I love this band because it's hard for me to classify their music- ripping, grinding guitars, manic drums, music layered both subtly and defiantly, creating a wall of sound that just barely allows the flowing vocals to escape. One of my favorite alty bands, ever. I wonder: how come this group isn't huge.
