The Rules

The Long Version

You've seen the short version on the forum. Now here is the long version, with a few explanations.
  • Spam: Just don't do it.
The SquidU forums are a strict anti-spam zone. What's spam? Here are just a few examples:
    - posting ads for non-Squidoo services
    - posting non-Squidoo links for promo purposes
    - anything having to do with porn, viagra, MLM, hoodia, and related topics
Yup, you can and will get banned if you post spam. And, your account could get locked and/or deleted. So just don't do it.
  • Thou shalt not flame, harass, denigrate, spam, malign, or otherwise finger-point and name-call at other lensmasters, Citizens or moderators. This one's a biggy. This too can get you banned.
SquidU is also a strict no-tolerance zone. If you harass, name-call, or put-down any other user or lensmaster, you'll find yourself banned from using the forum.
    - beware when posting links you don't like, or asking things like "what is wrong with this person?" or "how can this person be a Giant?" You can identify the lensmaster through the lens, and this could be considered degrading.
    - be nice and take your personal issues elsewhere
  • Squidstaff love interacting with smart front-line people, so they stop by the forums from time to time to hear your ideas and share updates. The SquidU boards are not intended, however, to be a place to post bugs or solicit admin action. Please send those requests through our feedback link.
In order to provide the best service possible and keep track of comments and issues, we've narrowed down direct communication to our bug reporting system, unless otherwise specified. So if you have a bug or problem that can't be fixed at the forum, feel free to follow a bug report. Otherwise, check out the forum and The Answer Deck.
And, we won't handle locked lens reports on the forum at all. Thanks for following the directions regarding that one.
  • The SquidU forum is a place for lensmasters to interact, to share ideas and inspiration (and yes, gripes... maybe another lensmaster can help) and have fun with their lenses.
Thanks for helping us keep it a place to relax, reconnect, and become a better lensmaster!

New? Introduce Yourself!

Stop by and say, "Hi!"

If you're new to the forum, stop by to say hi! This is where new lensmasters can post a shameless plug about who they are and why they're here. If you're ready to post lenses to share or have critiqued

(How can you tell if your "about me" introductory post contains kosher links? If you're just linking to your main website, career site, or blog, it's probably ok. Better save the sales pitches for your lens, and affiliate links are a no-no here.)

Thumbs up to new users! Image courtesy of Eskimo Jo and Creative Commons.

Critique Me...

Get helpful hints for your lens

Could your lens use a little love? First things first, it needs to be published. If you haven't already, click that big orange button on the "edit screen" (aka workshop) of your lens. Then read this checklist to see if you've missed anything.

Then post away! Your URL will be in this format: http://www.squidoo.com/yourlensurl That is the link that sends readers to your lens. No need for HTML or bbcode, just include the http:// part.

Thanks, c h e e s e roc for letting us critique your ugly sweater, courtesy of Creative Commons.

Giant Squid Organizers

The Giant Squid Organizers are Giant Squids who are paying special attention to the Introduction and Critique forums to help you get a good start!

Official SquidTeam Announcements

Official notes from Squidoo Officials

When the SquidStaff has an important or official announcement, this is where we post it. If you see something that's more than a few weeks old, though, it may not still be relevant. So try searching before replying.

Logging in?

Be sure to use your *username* and password. You can find your username in the My Profile tab of your Squidoo dashboard.

The Chatter Box

For stuff that just doesn't go anywhere else

Got an itch to scratch? Chat up the masses with your random ponderings about life, love, and Squidoo.

If you're bragging about a non-Squidoo achievement, cool. Keep in mind that although some of the content here may be off-Squidoo-topic, it's still a 100% spam-free zone.

Help, Please!

Get help building great lenses

If you're stuck between a lens and a hard place, never fear! But before going gangbusters posting your questions, do a quick search to make sure your question hasn't already been answered.

You can also check the Answer Deck for helpful lenses by helpful lensmasters.

Tricks of the Trade

Learn valuable tips from our generous lensmasters

If you want to learn or share a super exciting tip for using Squidoo, head over to the Tricks of the Trade forum.

Groups!

Make groups, not war.

Groups are a great way to connect lenses that have something in common. If you're looking for a group to join, promoting your own group, or asking management questions, this is the place to go.

Plus, take advantage of the awesome lens our very own Groups Mentor Barkely has put together to help you design great groups!

eBay Users' Forum

Let's go to auction-town!

The eBay Users' Forum is a special place just for eBay users and addicts. If you're really into eBaying, stop by SquidBids.com for a special shop design.

Angels Forum

Got a great lens to submit for a blessing?

The Squid Angels are a group of volunteers who work hard to promote the good and make the bad silently go away. If you have a great lens that you think is worth of a blessing, and you've already given it the "step 1" and "step 2" treatments, post it on the Angel's forum and see what happens!

Lenses we Like

Shameless self promotion at its finest!

SquidU is strickly a spam-free zone, but there is one place you can go to shamelessly plug your own lens. Lenses we Like is a section of the forum where you get one chance to post your link, chat it up, and show it off.

Or if you're feeling generous, show off someone else's lens that you love!

Requested Features

Hrm, what else does Squidoo need?

Did you think up the greatest new tool you think Squidoo needs? Tell us about it on the Requested Features forum.

While we make no promises about what will actually get added, we DO look at each request.

Challenges and Contests

Attract attention with a fun challenge!

One of the best ways to generate enthusiasm for your topic is to create a contest. If you're running a lens drive, scavenger hunt, or another challenge for lensmasters, promote it at the Challenges and Contests forum.

Non-Profit Nook

Where charities come to play

I may be biased, but this is one of my favorite forums on SquidU. It's the Non-Profit Nook! Our charities come here to play, tell stories about their cause, and generate enthusiasm about taking five minutes to create a lens for charity.

PS - if you're a charity and you're not already chatting here, get with it! We miss you.

Lens Marketplace

Buy, sell, or trade. Or auction!

JeffryV holds the honor of the first lens sold at auction, but since then hundreds of lenses have been bought, sold, auctioned, and traded using the Lens Marketplace on Squidoo.

Module Development

Got an idea for a great new module?

Are you programming savvy? Have a great idea for a new module? Want to take a chance we'll love it? The Module Development forum gives you a chance to create your own idea for a lens. Pick up the MDK and design away. Just keep in mind that we have the last say on approving it. Just like the Twitter API, anyone can play with it, but it has to pass our tests before we can give it the final ok.

ADULTS only, please.

For R-rated lenses

It IS the internet, so it's only appropriate we give lensmasters a special place they can discuss R -rated lenses. (Sorry, we're no longer allowing X-rated lenses.) If you're chatting about stuff you don't want your kindergartener to read, help keep our forum clean by limited the chatter to the Adults only forum. Thanks!
