A Day of Hope
It Starts With A Random Act Of Kindness
Pay It Forward
The expression "pay it forward" is used to describe the concept of asking that a good turn be repaid by having it done to others instead. In contract law, typically there are two parties but there is the concept of third party beneficiaries. Pay it forward merely applies this contract law concept so that third party beneficiary be a stranger to the creditor (or obligee). More specifically, the creditor (obligee) offers the debtor (obligor) the option of "paying" the debt forward by lending it to a third person instead of paying it back to the original creditor. Debt and payments can be monetary or by good deeds. In sociology, this concept is called "generalized reciprocity" or "generalized exchange". A related transaction, which starts with a gift instead of a loan, is alternative giving.
Pay It Forward To US Troops!
Vistit http://www.anysoldier.com/WhereToSend/ for a list of soliders wishes and requests. Beware...you may be overcome with tears once you start reading the posts from the soldiers. The site is awesome! P.S.The rate to send a letter to a soldier in Iraq is the same as US postage (if sending from the US)...but PRICELESS to the soldier receiving it :)

The Food For Everyone Foundation
Hope
Hope is bright shining light which keeps darkness at the bay.Hope is gentle cold breeze on a hot summer day.
Hope
Hope is a belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one's life. Hope is the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hope hope. (n.d.). The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. Retrieved March 18, 2008, from Dictionary.com website: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hope
When used in a religious context, hope carries a connotation of being aware of what Christians see as spiritual truth; see Hope (virtue). In Christian theology, hope is one of the three theological virtues (faith, hope, and lovePreviously called charity; however, in modern English charity commonly means giving alms to the poor and needy, so the word love is more accurate.), which are spiritual gifts of God. In contrast to the above, it is not a physical emotion but a spiritual grace. Hope is distinct from positive thinking, which refers to a therapeutic or systematic process used in psychology for reversing pessimism. The term false hope refers to a hope based entirely around a fantasy or an extremely unlikely outcome.
What Does It Mean To Be A Volunteer?
Volunteer and Volunteers redirect here. For other meanings of Volunteer, Volunteers, and Voluntary, see Volunteer (disambiguation).
Volunteering is the practice of people working on behalf of others without being motivated by financial or material gain. Volunteering is generally considered an altruistic activity, intended to promote good or improve human quality of life. People also volunteer to gain skills without requiring an employer's financial investment.
Volunteering takes many forms and is performed by a wide range of people. Many volunteers are specifically trained in the areas they work in, such as medicine, education, or emergency rescue. Others volunteer on an as-needed basis, such as in response to a natural disaster.

Are You A Compassionate Person?
Compassion is a human emotion prompted by the pain of others. More vigorous than empathy, the feeling commonly gives rise to an active desire to alleviate another's suffering. It is often, though not inevitably, the key component in what manifests in the social context as altruism. In ethical terms, the various expressions down the ages of the so-called Golden Rule embody by implication the principle of compassion: Do to others what you would have them do to you. Matthew 7:12
The English noun compassion, meaning to suffer together with, comes from the Latin. Its prefix com- comes directly from com, an archaic version of the Latin preposition and affix Category: wikt - :cum|cum (= with); the -passion segment is derived from passus, past participle of the deponent verb Category: wikt - :patior|patior, pat?, passus sum. Compassion is thus related in origin, form and meaning to the English noun patient (= one who suffers), from patiens, present participle of the same Category: wikt - :patior|patior, and is akin to the Greek verb ??????? (= paskhein, to suffer) and to its cognate noun Category: wikt - :?????|????? (= pathos).
Ranked a great virtue in numerous philosophies, compassion is considered in all the major religious traditions as among the greatest of virtues.

The Difference Between Empathy and Sympathy
Empathy
Empathy, which literally translates as in feeling, is the capability to share another being's emotions and feelings.
Sympathy
Sympathy is a social affinity in which one person stands with another person, closely understanding his or her feelings. It also can mean being affected by feelings or emotions. Thus the essence of sympathy is that one has a strong concern for the other person. Sympathy exists when the feelings or emotions of one person are deeply understood and appreciated by another person.
The psychological state of sympathy is closely linked with that of compassion, empathy and empathic concern. Although empathy and sympathy are often used interchangeably, a subtle variation in ordinary usage can be detected. To empathize is to respond to another's perceived emotional state by experiencing feelings of a similar sort.Chismar, D. (1988). Empathy and sympathy: the important difference. The Journal of Value Inquiry, 22, 257-266. Sympathy not only includes empathizing (but not always), but also entails having a positive regard or a non- fleeting concern for the other person.Decety, J., & Batson, C.D. (2007). Social neuroscience approaches to interpersonal sensitivity. Social Neuroscience, 2(3-4), 151-157.
In common usage, sympathy is usually making known one's understanding of another's unhappiness or suffering, especially when it is grief.
Sympathy can also refer to being aware of other (positive) emotions as well.
In a broader sense, it can refer to the sharing of political or ideological sentiments, such as in the phrase "a communist sympathizer".
The word derives from the Greek ????????? (sympatheia)Sympatheia, Henry George Liddell, Robert Scott, A Greek-English Lexicon, at Perseus, from ??? (syn) "together" and ????? (pathos) "passion", in this case "suffering" (from ????? - pascho, "to be affected by, to suffer").

Forgiveness
Forgiveness is typically defined as the process of concluding resentment, indignation or anger as a result of a perceived offense, difference or mistake, and/or ceasing to demand punishment or restitution. The Oxford English Dictionary defines forgiveness as 'to grant free pardon and to give up all claim on account of an offence or debt'. The concept and benefits of forgiveness have been explored in religious thought, the social sciences and medicine. Forgiveness may be considered simply in terms of the person who forgives including forgiving themselves, in terms of the person forgiven and/or in terms of the relationship between the forgiver and the person forgiven. In some contexts, forgiveness may be granted without any expectation of restorative justice, and without any response on the part of the offender (for example, one may forgive a person who is incommunicado or dead). In practical terms, it may be necessary for the offender to offer some form of acknowledgment, apology, and/or restitution, or even just ask for forgiveness, in order for the wronged person to believe himself able to forgive.
Most world religions include teachings on the nature of forgiveness, and many of these teachings provide an underlying basis for many varying modern day traditions and practices of forgiveness. Some religious doctrines or philosophies place greater emphasis on the need for humans to find some sort of divine forgiveness for their own shortcomings, others place greater emphasis on the need for humans to practice forgiveness of one another, yet others make little or no distinction between human and/or divine forgiveness.

My kids have one thing on there list and I can't get it or anything for them. So my wish is for a Christmas present for my kids. They would like a nintendo wii with rock band. Would be thankful for anything at this point though. Again thank you for reading my wish.

- I wish to keep my promise to God.
One year ago, my younger brother was hit on the highway by a truck. He was thrown out of the car and was so badly injured the doctors did not expect he would make it through the night.
I stayed by his side that night and the five weeks he remained in a coma. I would sing Gospel and play some harmonica to my brother which, amazingly enough, would make him cry.
God is the greatest and I am very happy to report that my brother has been living with my son and I since he got out of the hospital one year ago. we had to teach him how to breathe, eat, write, talk, walk on his own again. It was very difficult. But thanks to God, he made it through!
I promised God if he would let my brother live to see his three little children grow up, I would learn to play Gospel and Blues on my harmonica. I would then go to retirement homes, and volunteer my time playing the harmonica for our "life veterans". ;-)
I set aside 30 minutes every evening after work to learn on my own. I only have my pay check to pay all the bills and make sure my son and my brother have everything they need and thus can not afford a teacher.
If anyone has a DVD that teaches how to play blues or Gospel with an harmonica, and does not use it...PLEASE...remember me! :-) I would very much appreciate it. I do not want anybody to spend money for the DVD. So think of me ONLY IF you already have one and do not use it anymore.
And if anyone knows where to get the tabs for Big Mama Thorton's song: "Down Home Shakedown" ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhyjFfZTGHk) I would be more than greatful. This is the song that made me fall in love with that instrument. I have searched the net to no luck so I am hoping someone will read my post and contact me. I am Belgian American, and have been living in Belgium for the past six years with my son...yep, an hour away from Toots Tielemans...but that does not help :-)
Thanks a lot for helping me keep my promise to God.
God bless you all!

http://www.wishuponahero.com/ - this site allows people to post for a wish & others to grant it -saw it on ABC news
also there are local organized group where people can post wanted items or offer to give away items they no longer need - i have given away baseball gloves, a dorm size fridge, gift certificate to a local diner, clothes & requested and received a computer monitor & mega blocks for my friends son....everything is done without contact with a porch pickup or drop off
It is a terrific way to receive items you need that you may not be able to afford and help o, i have seen washer/dryer, prom dresses, car seats, clothes, laptops, wheelchairs and more offered within 20 minutes of my house!
you can find these local groups on a few networks www.freecycle.org & http://www.reuseitnetwork.org/ i would highly recommend everyone go to both sites and find you local group or groups and join them!!! if you can, post 1 offer & 1 request, goodluck!
