Definitely visit Bentota and Hikkaduwa to get the feel of a real tropical beach. You could go snorkeling there along with a host of other water sports such as surfing, scuba diving or even boating. The nation is populated with exotic flora, wildlife, architectural marvels in the form of forts and temples, viharas and churches. You could go to the museums where you could catch a glimpse of those rarest rubies, emeralds and sapphires. You could make Colombo your center and still go to cultural escapades like Kandy. As newlyweds you and your partner could either choose to venture forth or see everything there is to see or you could be comfortably resting in each others' arms or you could choose to do both out there.

Of course you could reach Sri Lanka by both sea and air. There are certain airlines which fly you directly to Kattunayake International Airport along with the national airlines, Air Lanka. You could take flights from the southern cities of India to Colombo too. There are such daily flights. On the sea, you would be on a cruise liner to get to Sri Lanka.

Ideal time to go:

In a typical tropical climate like Sri Lanka, between December and March you are likely to get the best weather to travel or go on a honeymoon on the highlands along with the west and the south coasts. If you are going to the east costs, try going between May and September.
