A short history of the SSAT private school exam
It became apparent by the 1950's that the standards between individual schools and districts were very far apart and this in turn rendered it almost impossible to compare the academic achievements of the students in question. From this was born the idea of a common admission test. The Secondary School Admission Test Board was formed and they in turn developed the SSAT test.
Developmental Process for the SSAT
The basic questions are written by test specialists, high school teachers, and college instructors. The specialists and test editors review individual questions and eliminate those that may express bias, reflect stereotypes or contain material deemed too sensitive or inappropriate for social and/or religious reasons.
All questions go through a pre-testing phase to ensure answers are correct and students are able to comprehend the questions. The results of this process are then analyzed statistically and acceptable questions become part of a pool of available questions from which new versions of the SSAT test are created.
