About The City
St Davids is located on the South West coast of Wales, and despite officially being recognised as a city it is only really the size and make up of a small, attractive rural village. The status as a city is a result of the famous St Davids cathedral, which has had a dominant presence on the towns landscape since it was built back in the 12th century. The cathedral was a popular pilgrimage destination in the past and to this day still attracts thousands of visitors every year. It is also adjacent to the ruins of the Bishops Palace, a ruin which despite it's current state really highlights the amount of power and wealth which was once based in the city.Nowadays there is a great deal to keep visitors busy, even away from the incredible cathedral. Most of the activities available take advantage of the city's proximity to the coastline. There are a number of activities which allow visitors to see the full beauty of the Welsh coast line, including whale and dolphin watching trips, marine tours of the Pembrokeshire Islands and even jet boat tours. There are guided walks of the Pembrokeshire coast there is and RSPB Nature Reserve in the area.
Depending on the time of year there are some large community events which take place which are worth visiting. The St Davids Cathedral Festival takes place over 9 days in Many and June and offers a large variety of classical music. The Really Wild Festival takes place in September most years and is a celebration of food and countryside arts and crafts.
