For Queen, For England, and For St George
St George's Day Should Be a National Holiday in England
Four countries make up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and England.
Every country but England celebrates their respective Saint day as a national holiday.
It is considered to be a dirty word practically to admit to being proud to be English, even flying the flag of England, the cross of St George, is frowned upon. Not least because the flag has been co-opted by the British Nationalist Party.
The only time it is okay to fly the English flag is to show one's support during sporting events it would seem!
I am here now to say. It is okay to be proud to be English. It is okay to be proud of one's country. And England should designate St George's Day as a national Bank Holiday!
Who's this St George guy anyway?

The Legend of St George and the Dragon
In the town of Silene in Libya there was a pond. In the pond dwelt a great plague-bearing dragon.Villagers would feed it sheep and maidens to keep it from becoming angry. The maidens of the village would draw lots to determine who would be sacrificed to the dragon.
The time came when the lot fell upon the Princess of Silene. The King, distraught, told the people they could have all his riches and half his kingdom if his daughter were spared, but they refused.
The princess, dressed as a bride, was sent to the lake to be eaten by the dragon.
St George heard of this and rode on horseback to the lake. The princess tried to send him away, but he refused.
As Saint George and the princess were talking the dragon came up out of the lake. He charged the dragon on horseback and pierced it with his lance. He then called upon the princiess to throw him her girdle. He put this around the dragon's neck and the dragon became tamed. It followed the princess like a dog on a leash.
They led the dragon back to the town where Saint George called the people out. He told them that if they converted to Christianity and were baptised he would slay the dragon for them.
They king and villagers agreed and were converted and baptised.Saint George then drew his dword and slew the dragon.
On the site where the dragon died, the king built a church. Within the church could be found a spring whose waters cured all diseases.
Movies about England
What do you think?
Should England designate St George's Day as a National Bank Holiday?
Or should less focus be placed on England's differences from the other countries that make up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland?
St George's Day Should Be a National Holiday in England
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byOf course it should. The other countries of the UK and Northern Ireland honor their patron saints and so should England
tirial says:
Why not? We seem to be the only ones that don't have our saint's day as a holiday (and more bank holidays are always welcome).

There's too much division between the countries of Great Britain and Northern Ireland as it is. Adding a bank holiday to celebrate St George's Day won't help matters any.
